#110 is devoted to the origin of the villain at the center of the current arc. Itís a sad tale. Great Gene Colan art. Action is kept to a minimum. And, other than Daredevilís face-to-face meeting/chat with the baddie, nothing happens that advances the story. But, now, we know whatís going onÖ 6/10

Jfpj1991, you and I rarely disagree, but this time I think you have taken leave of your senses. That origin was completely absurd coincidence piled one upon another.

That was the dumbest result of radiation Marvel has come up with.

Too much monkey business going on.

I don't know if it is necessarily racist...but the fact that the flip side of the black couple having a REALLY white baby was a white couple having a monkey was at the very least...uncomfortable.
Mandrill's appearance and powers just seem so contrary to each other. Like you'd expect maybe for him to have the speed, agility, and strength of an ape, but instead he is the ultimate ladies man... I think someone was dipping a little heavy into the scotch when this was conceived.

Mandrill's origin and powers are so ridiculous, and yet... I kinda wanna read a four-issue limited series called Mandrill & Nekra. Hold on... I actually just favorited both of their characters so I can read all of the rest of their appearances. Because somehow I just can't look away. Even though I probably should.

I'm guessing this was a last minute fill-in by Colan, because the pencils are baaaad. Also seems like they feel DD needs a consistent partner or guest star as if he can't carry a title alone.

  Nice, Gene Colan is back!

Mandrillís parents are harsh

So how was The Mandrill able to hypnotize The Thing and ho come his mother wasnít more protective of him (I know that it was his father that abandoned him, but come onÖ)?

Mandrill from Shanna's short-lived mag is the secret head of Black Spectre? Uhmm, wow. I was pretty underwhelmed by his appearances back then and I'm a bit underwhelmed now. That said, this arc is better than I ever had a right to expect. At least so far.

As far as Mandrill's and Nekra's origin stories, they were just off the wall crazy. The interpretation of human mutation here would deviate some from this as time passes in the Marvel Universe, and this origin does seem very 70s. And the nature of Mandrill's hypnotic abilities? Must've gotten a pretty enthusiastic thumbs-up from Stan and/or Roy at the time.

Pretty clearly, this whole arc now stands revealed as a vehicle to conclude Shanna's story, and Daredevil's connection to Ka-Zar made this title a worthwhile choice for such a conclusion. So why do I feel like this arc has already fallen flat on its face well before its conclusion?

2 stars. Only Steve Gerber's penchant for absurd satire kept this story believable, but that's about all this arc has going for it anymore.

Where are the X-Men is all I want to know? They're dropping the ball if they're letting a mutant hypnotise almost every woman he comes across without doing anything about it.
