An issue packed with events, battles, revelations and even a new sub-plot(?) as the story arc ending looms. The Silver Samurai makes a formidable foe. 6/10

So this is the "New and improved, back to monthly" Daredevil, eh? Anything involving Shanna or Mandrill is just plain silly, in my opinion.

If I previously knew that Silver Samurai started out as a non-Wolverine villain, I sure didn't remember it.

I'm really diggin this story. The only thing I didn't like was how easily DD dispensed of Silver Sam after he got sleep.

Daredevil didn't really dispense of Sam, so much as kick him in the head to make him a little dizzy, then run away as fast as possible.
Walking the streets of New York must be such a terrifying proposition. With all these battles we always see huge chunks of masonry being pounded off of skyscrapers, but like the only time we've ever seen how it lands was when Captain Stacy died.
Enjoying this arc more than I would have thought, but next issue is the finale which is where DD stories usually disappoint the most

I thought this one was surprisingly good. It may be because I just read like a run of 20 DD comics in a row, but I'm growing a soft spot for him.

In Shanna's own book, she was plagued by costume inconsistencies. But artist Bob Brown is very consistent... in abandoning any plausible visible reason for why Shanna's top stays on. Jaguar print pasties, perhaps?

Brown's art seems slightly improved, but that's not saying much. DD's internal dialogue felt repetitive, and it seems they're trying to make him sound more like Spider with his quips, so they still can't figure out how to make DD distinct.
I wonder if Gerber had the race angle in mind from he beginning when he created Nekkra and Mandrill?

Includes an insightful letter from future writer/editor Ralph Macchio.

Why is DD still feeling betrayed about Natasha? He knows she is not in control

Why does Shanna need to get into her fur-kini? (I mean, I know why, but it’s still impractical)

Mandrill being physically unappealing but magnetic to women, like an American Serge Gainsbourg, is interesting. The fact that there is a racial, King Kong aspect to it is both icky and fascinating (icky is my big boy pants, academic word for a racial issue that is uncomfortable and borderline racist but its genesis is fascinating and illustrative) . So he is a white man coded as black who is irresistible to women but this one white woman, who masters a space coded as black (Africa), won’t fall for his charms. Meanwhile, Nekra, like a hateful Nella Larsen, going to beat youra**for even suggesting she is passing.

This Now Playing is dedicated to Nekra “Hate Song” Fudge Tunnel

Oddly, this issue was much better than last issue. But sigh, now both the ladies in this arc are captured. I know this is DD's mag and he's the hero, but....

Silver Samurai's first appearance was pretty cool though. Gotta love a guy who talks about honor while he's really nothing more than a hired hand. It should be fun to see his character evolve over time, especially when we get to the stories explaining his connection to Wolverine.

3 stars.
