Issue Review
   July 16, 2015
Unsatisfying conclusion to the story arc. Unsatisfying because we don’t care enough about these characters to care about the death of one of them. And his outrage and shattered beliefs (just before he gets shot) seem out of place with the rest of the story. We’ve been following Michael and Amanda, and they are kinda sidelined in the final chapter. Which doesn’t really work. 5/10

That might just be the most bloody, brutal, graphic death in the Order so far (the gun-shot that splattered Brock's brains in the lighthouse). I loved it.

Better than usual Morbius but still Morbius.

I remember seeing a Marvel special... At some point, they stopped gaining the comics code approval and tarted writing more real stuff with blood and death. I had stopped paying attention to the other mags, but noticed this particular issue didn't have the seal if approval. I wonder if the monster titles were the turning point... I believe the special said Captain America was the first character title to have not gotten the seal of approval...

That was quite an exit wound for a small caliber hand gun. lol I guess you pays your 75cents and you want to sees your gore.
The whole "Don't believe in heroes" message is a little weird coming from a company that has heroes as their backbone. Not to mention it falls a little flat when the girl just says it out loud after the guys head gets blown off.
Well hopefully no Morbius for a little while.

This is a hidden gem. McGregor's script is innovative and fun, and Buckler's art is cinematic at times. I particularly like the scene in the theater where Buckler shows us Demon-Fire and Brock and Arlene converging from both sides on Morbius and Amanda in the middle. I also liked the use of a horror story to send a message about not trusting politicians - very appropriate for the early 70s.

Toooooooooooooooo much exposition. A fourteen page comic that took me WAY longer than most twenty pages take.

Why are there *five* POVs in this? It's a 14 page story for crying out loud! This was such a dense and unpleasant slog.

3 stars for Blood-Tide being taken out with the tide!!!

Dumb Blonde - Once again Amanda misses what's going on right in front of her!!

Rated R - If Morbius had just two minutes more, he could've had Amanda with the ol' popcorn in the pants trick!!!

Majestic - Although, that is one sweet looking theater!!

Bobble-Head - Blood-Tide is like the Mysterio of the Devil worshippers!!!

'Nuff Said - "Yeah, well Duke'll sack him pronto if he's up to no good."-The Idealistic Brock Kilbride

Had at least 90% of the redundant POV text been removed this would have easily been one of the best ish of the era.

Although the Demon-Fire arc is starting to get a little, errr, long in the tooth, I like it so far. The mature magazine format should expand some more story possibilities instead of just being a format for gore, but I honestly can't think of this series in a standard format right now.

I'm starting to think Amanda's having a hard time mentally processing everything that's going on, after the attempts made on her life so far. No wonder she seems oblivious to it all.

3 stars. The way Brock lost his head here...ouch, that's going to leave a mark.

The wicked witch is in the west, it's a good witch in the north. If you're going to reference The Wizard of Oz, at least get it right.

Morbius is not the best mag but it is innovative and progressive compared to the other titles. Vampire Tales seems like a very important coming out of sorts from Marvel as they enter deeper into the 70s and towards the Modern Age. A lot of mature themes and ideas that will be done better years later.

One of the reasons Marvel was so eager to do the black and white magazines was to escape from the confines of the CCA. It shows in Brock's graphic death.

Otherwise, other than the really excellen Robert Bloch adaption, most of the stories are almost "typical" vampire stories. I'm not a fan.

Still point to Morbius actually acting heroic.

3 stars.

Too much "senseless prattling" as Morbius puts it.
