One of those hero vs. hero misunderstanding battles that I don't enjoy :(
Early part of the issue (Valkyrie leaves) was more interesting than the battle with Luke Cage. 5/10

Another case of a lying cover, but nonetheless a fun issue.

  Hurray! A construction-themed super-villain team!

Ha! Love the choice of villains in this little arc! Clever.

That two page spread at the end was the bee's knees.

Relieved that they didn't spoil the reveal at the end by putting it on the cover.

How does the Hulk not turn back to BB when he's just chummin' around with the Defenders?
Strange casts a spell to keep Hulk from changing back to Banner, because he thinks Hulk is way cooler to have at parties.

I don't think that Strange needs to cast any spells, as the Hulk always seems to be peeved with him for some reason or another. And yes, that cover was a pretty blatant lie, and this time not just because it has Subby on the trademark.
I know that the Hulk's motivations don't often make much sense, but even for him that was a pretty dumb reason to get mad a leave. I understand that they had to get rid of him or he would have just mopped the floor with Cage, but they could have come up with a better reason.
And speaking of Cage, I can't help but feel that Doc Strange should have been out of commission for a lot longer after being sent flying from a punch to the head from him.

At this point, I think any story which has Luke Cage drives the fun quotient up considerably. His tussle against two Defenders was a hoot to watch, even though I was a little surprised that Nighthawk held his own against him.

The Wrecking Crew; I like these guys! They're sheer hellraisers that somehow work together; they should be fun to see in action next issue, but I never would've thought they got their start in a Defenders mag. Amazing what you learn when you go through the Order.

And with Namor, Hulk, Valkyrie and Silver Surfer gone, looks like the Defenders will be pining for new members. I doubt Luke Cage would join up, but he'd be a very interesting fit if he did.

3 stars. Nighthawk couldn't ride Aragorn; silly playboy, flying horses don't take American Express!

Man, we are so close to one of my favorite runs on a comic, Steve Gerber's Defenders! This was fun, I was doubting myself whether or not that this was the Wrecking Crew's first appearance. Defenders is still one of the better titles not written by Englehart.

Cage has no formal combat training and Kyle does. Kyle is also far more agile. And the fight was storyboarded exactly the way it should have been to reflect that.
