Issue Review
   March 7, 2017
The best part of this is the first third. It's all about Peter and Flash. Stuck for a place to live, Parker moves in with his former nemesis. And they bond.
Thereafter, the comic switches to action mode. A villain lives nearby, everybody (including Flash) falls under his spell and Spidey comes to the rescue. Straightforward superheroics.

Worst Spider-Man in a while. Its all the dumb villains fault.

@Starnes: Hey, Mindworm is the best villain Rockaway Beach has to offer! This story was totally hack, but I found myself enjoying it. I love the "abandoned shack" which looked to be a huge house right on the water.

This was okay, but probably the worst issue of Spider Man in the first 138 issues.

This issue sucked, especially the villain, but I did enjoy the friendship developing between Flash and Peter.

I love this issue, one my favourites.

It's like to see Spider-Man at a Creepy/Eerie story. I love this "dark shore" visual. Very atmospherical. The villain is cool.

Sad to see such a shitty story after what was a really good arc.

Bad issue lame villain, lazy background story terrible, too bad to see spider man this bad.

The house of ideas definitely ran out of ideas on that one.

Take away the lame villain, and the interaction between Pete and Flash were perfect.

Finally! Spider-Man's most deadly foe has finally arrived. Are you ready for the power of... The Psionic Woodchuck!!!
Would have liked to have seen a more gradual change in Flash and Peter's relationship, but it was nice to see them finally getting along.

One of my favorite creative teams on the book drops the worst issue of the series in your lap. I've read this issue twice trying to find a redeeming quality and I just can't.

A very bad issue with the only redeeming quality being the development of a friendship between Peter and Flash

I'm saddened to see that the Mindworm has at least one more appearance.

What a step down from the last arc. It feels a lot like a Team-Up issue without the guest star, and that's definitely not a compliment. Hopefully this means that Flash and Peter will get a bit friendlier, their pseudo-rivalry has always been a bit annoying.

  Zidko Says:
  2016-11-04 16:18:47
I thought this story was a nice little epithet to the previous arc. Showing how much the events involving both Harry and Mary Jane have affected Peter. It's not Spider-Man who defeats the Mindworm's possession, but Peter's emotions.

  Russ Says:
  2017-11-01 19:32:24
I have to admit, this one did have some potential. The Mindworm fed on people's emotions, and Peter sure has had his fair share of them. No wonder Mindworm felt so overwhelmed; it's like what most of us would do if McDonald's were a buffet!

But again, plot execution is what kills most of Conway's ideas. Too often the ideas are good, but end up as nonsense when conveyed. This was a missed opportunity to dig into the psyche of Peter Parker; those tend to make compelling stories.

2 stars. I did like seeing the odd budding of the friendship between Peter and Flash. And Flash is right about military service; as a guy winding my own military career down, I agree with what he said about it: you can enjoy it, but you mostly endure it.

  Nsmash Says:

I don't understand why the Mindworm had to be so hideously deformed. He would have made a much more interesting character with the ability to blend in.

  Katryn Says:

I don't know which was worse, the Mindworm's character design or his mental powers being defeated by being hit in the ears.

I could not read this one. I ended up skimming. We have some character development with Peter having to move in with Flash but the villain. What? Was Batroc booked? Horrible and has been done better (Try "Without Horns" in the Unknown fantasy magazine).

One star...

I wasn’t really digging this issue until that line. Then I laughed out loud and read the rest as a comedy. It wasn’t half bad after that!
