Issue Review
   November 11, 2016

Ka-Zar starts the issue in battle. And by shouting his own name out. In fact he spends the whole issue in battle, surrounded by many foes and constantly in action. Fine. Except he never accomplishes anything. At the very end the attackers fade away due to things happening elsewhere in the story. So, really, he was just filler in his own book. Zabu impresses when he joins the battle, but - again - this means nothing. The story reached a conclusion based on the decisions of other characters. Bobbi Morse fought beside our hero, looking sexy in a tight short dress which didn't get torn or damaged in any way. Indeed her glasses were still on at the conclusion. And while all this (visually pleasing, but) pointless action was happening... the two villains were doing stuff that ended the story. When the main villain reached out and enlisted an accomplice earlier in the arc it made no great sense to the reader. Now, the character voices the same thought. Even he doesn't understand his own earlier decisions! Both villains are affected by the same unexplained phenomenon that started this mess. In different ways. None of this is explained. It just happens. Then they have engineered their own defeat. And the story ends. Perplexing stuff. 3/10

Well nuts. I usually like Ka-zar, but the's last 3 issues were rough.

This was better, despite the cop out ending.

WTF happened to Maa-Gor at the end? None of that made sense. He split into two bodies, one killed the other, then some computer killed that one? And that turned him back into a man-ape? Missing an eye? WTF?!
At least Bobbi had a chance to kick some butt this issue after looking like a fool last issue.
I'll be happy to not come back to Ka-Zar for a while...I hope.

I hope he machine in the mists isn't canon. The last half of this issue was all over the place.

Actually, I thought the ending went a ways toward rescuing the entire arc....by ending!

I can see the ending, in a way, although I can't explain the re-emergence of Maa-Gor as a mindless brute from that swamp. The machine should've killed him decisively, but yeah, this is the Marvel Universe, and unless you're Uncle Ben or Gwen Stacy, you don't stay dead. Ever. Or, maybe El Tigre, who did seem down for the count by the end and hasn't appeared since. (Maybe that's a spoiler, but honestly, how many people said "Oh no! El Tigre's my favorite villain! How could you?")

2 stars. It might've been cooler to have the man-apes stay returned and Maa-Gor remain dead. Could've made an intriguing subplot going forward.

Yay, that ending made those 3 issues completely pointless!

Holy crap! The letters page even had someone comparing this run very unfavorably (calling it "trash") to Jungle Action.

At least Marvel was aware enough and honest enough to print that letter. It's a quality redeeming enough to get this to a 2-star level for me. Barely.

Gah! We wade through not one, not two, but three issues of what would be perhaps a two-parter in '66 and we get...an ending from 1966. This is as annoying as the "It was all just a dream" cop-out.

Heck's art was okay. Not great, but his usual competence.

Two stars.
