Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   January 1, 2014
An unfunny guest character, created for comedic effect, pretty much ruins this comic. Horrible. He pretty much carries the story, and appears in most of it. For no reason. Itís a bizarre choice for this title. What were they thinking?! A pity, because the elements not related to him had the makings of a fair issue. Sigh. 2/10

Issue Synopsis

Shang-Chi interrupts a bank robbery and is forced to chase the remaining robbers in a car. They chase the robbers through a manhole and onto a subway train, where they run into Smith and Blackjack. They continue to chase the money to Rockefeller Center, where they encounter Tiger-Claw. After disposing of Si-Fan assassins the two fight until Tiger-Claw is beaten.

Negative star for the really annoying, Groucho Marx parody driver.

  Redsvetz Says:
  2012-12-14 14:42:01
@Starnes: Yup, Groucho the Cabbie was the MFin' worst! He was probably shoehorned in to extend a regular-length book to "Giant-Size" status.

  I thought he was cool.

  Kez Says:

Man, that Groucho Marx bit got old extremely quickly.

  Drax Says:
  2013-10-14 20:23:32
Damn, that taxi driver was annoying. And the worst part is, I see now that they're gonna bring him back eventually!

  Gym1963 Says:
  2014-04-26 07:23:02
I usually really enjoy the Shang Chi stories, but the stupid attempts at 'humor' turned this one into a mess.

That was a love it or hate it one for sure.

I really don't like that Hackstabber fella.

Take a drink every time the unfunny "comedy relief" bitches and moans about his $7.80...

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:

I was hoping Tiger-Claw would have poisoned the Groucho cabby.

  Rufus was horrible.

  The 5 Stages of Grief:
1. Denial: No, they're not actually going to have Groucho co-star through this entire comic, are they?
2. Anger: My gods he is so annoying, won't one of you goons kill him already.
3. Bargaining: Seriously, I'll pay you your $7.80 if you will please just go away.
4. Depression: This is my life now... Just one unfunny joke after another.
5. Acceptance: Okay, I guess he's not that -- OH THANK THE GODS IT'S OVER!!

  podgejeff Says:

Are you joking me? He comes back?! Ugh.

You had to suspend disbelief that he didn't die throughout this entire story.

  phogbear Says:

Give Shang-Chi some shoes! He just walked through the sewer in his bare feet. So gross out by that, but that's only because I've been done there.

Tiger Claw: Bald in the front, party in the back.

Am I tripping, or did multiple people get Shang Chi's name wrong in multiple ways in this issue?

"Shang-Chi's getting stale. We need a new direction. Something fresh, something exciting, something unexpected! Any ideas?"

"Mmm...you ever see Duck Soup?"

Personally, I was hoping Chico and Harpo were going to show up as well.

  Russ Says:
  2018-01-09 19:23:36
This was a bad Day at the Races for Shang-Chi and Co. All that Monkey Business with the bank robberies was just a bunch of Horse Feathers and drove me Animal Crackers. In using the Groucho caricature in this story there was very little Humor Risk and if I were lawyers for the Marx estate I'd be telling Marvel "Of course, you know this means war!"

2 stars. Was this entertaining but bad? You Bet Your Life!

  grayrender Says:
  2018-04-07 04:00:17
A series that started as a breath of fresh air has turned into a full blown parody of itself. Damm shame.

  That Guy Says:
  2018-04-11 21:12:35
The same people pissing and moaning about the Groucho Marx inspired humor in this one almost certainly find the She-Hulk to be falling down hysterical. 'Nuff Said.

  dadoodoflow Says:

Shang-Chi is very entertaining. Every time it comes up in the order I go and read a different comic.

That was no Lord Julius.
