Conclusion of a great story by Steve Gerber and Mike Ploog.
One with several great battle scenes and characters to really care about.

I don't understand why they keep putting random characters on the covers.

And where dawg was laid to rest is where the red fern grows.

I'm thinking maybe the cover artists were told the basics of what's going on in the story (A gorgon is battling the Man-Thing to try to kill her husband) and they just draw it without seeing any of the character designs.
No you evil woman, Dawg did not forgive you. You were so mean to him, but he still saved you. Because he's a good boy, yes he is!
Why didn't the mist demon just take control of Man-Thing and kill Dawg? Or hell, just take control of Dawg and have him walk into a gator's mouth, or run into traffic!

This was so awful :/ I hope Man-Thing doesn't go the Nick Fury route...

So, I wonder if Zeke and Maybelle are going to stick around for a little while. Heck, if they live in the swamp, and they're apparently not very afraid of Man-Thing, does that mean the old couple now has a moss-covered guardian angel of sorts? It might be fun for a few stories if Gerber does it right.

Creepy stuff here, and it wasn't classic Man-Thing by any stretch, but it was pretty good. Interesting to see both Zeke and Maybelle expressing their regrets in life, albeit separately. Next issue: Man-Thing, licensed marriage counselor!

3 stars, and a moment of silence for Dawg.

  About the covers...

Mark Evanier wrote an interesting article recently about why there's a Jack Kirby cover for an issue of Thor that wasn't published with a Jack Kirby cover.

Stan and Martin Goodman would order a cover from someone. Sometimes it was the interior artist and sometimes it wasn't. They basically told the artist what was supposed to be on the cover and then approved the line art.

Evanier talks about Stan doing this but in "Marvel Comics: The Untold Story" we find that Martin Goodman always approved the covers.

This is basically why we have a batch of covers that only slightly have anything to do with what is going on inside.

Before you think this is weird, this is the same process paperback publishers and magazine publishers use and used.

So that's why.

Four stars again. Good story, fantastic Ploog art.
