It strives to make a valid thoughtful point, but - rare for this series - the actual story doesn't really ring true.

I like Mike Ploog's art a lot more on Man-Thing than on Werewolf By Night. His style suits this title better, I think.

I love Steve Gerber, but sometimes he tries too hard on the society insight thing.

You don't have to do it everytime, sometimes seems that he cares more about it than about the plot itself. I would enjoy it much more if he was less explicit sometimes, maybe more metaphorical or, at least, less pragmatic.

And i miss the lack of intention of making the drawn also express the meaning of the words, to make the script and the art on a interdependent way. But, well, maybe it's Ploog's fault, since he scripted the #10 issue(Gerber said it on a letters page) and, even i loving it, it still lacked some soul, except for Dawg, and aesthetic depth.

Man, if you got hit with a napalm blast and all you go was some melted faces, then you are unbelievably lucky. As soon as she mentioned her brother was supposed to pick her up I knew he was going to be one of the kidnappers, but when Rory said that the guy that died's face was horribly scarred, she may have at least wanted to make sure it wasn't him.
For some reason I found it very amusing that Man-Thing lost his balance and fell through the window accidentally.

Man, those guys, including Sybil's brother, were quite messed up to try to kidnap her like that. I'm not sure I follow their reasoning behind it, but it's not hard to imagine that the war messed up more than their faces. Kind of sad, especially considering the government didn't do much for Vietnam veterans when they finally came home.

2 stars. Not one of Gerber's better scripts. But dang, it would've been nice if Richard did get another girlfriend after Ruth left.

This was a massive drop in quality from the past two issues in both art and story.

The art looks rushed and the story is too preachy at the end and there's not much in the middle.

Two stars.
