“Quasi-Profound Psychological Drama”! Plus lots of standing around in the rain. Steve Gerber scripts are great! Even if the ending wraps things up a bit too neat, I still loved this. 9/10

I don't hate The Man-Thing, but I can't say I really enjoy them that much either. They're kinda just "there." Who was buying this book in the 70s, I wonder?
Also, there seem to be a lot of "abandoned" buildings just on the edge of the swamp...

Not as good as the past few Man-Things.

Ok, now that's a well drawn comic. John Buscema is amazing.

And, in my opinion, this is one of the best Gerber writings so far.

Steve Gerber is no Allen Gonsberg, and "Song Cry of the Living Dead Man" is no "Howl", but there is some real sadness and emotion in this one.

I don't understand this guy. He's dead and lives in a mental institution? I'm half asleep, so maybe that's why I'm so confused...

Horrible. What the heck was that?

An interesting allegory for dealing with depression. All the thoughts of the people you let down, the times you weren't good enough, the voices that tell you you're worthless.
But how do these memories become solid matter able to try to kill? Would have been nice to have some sort of explanation rather than just ignoring it.

I just assume that since the Citrusville area is where the Nexus of All Realities is, that some crazy crap can manifest there that wouldn't normally happen elsewhere.

I think I get what Steve Gerber is going for here; having a lot of the inner demons Brian was torturing himself with become literal and tangible representations. I just don't think he articulated it as well or as accurate as he could've. If Gerber concentrated more on the guy's general state in life instead of just what he experienced at his job (for example, was he married and his marriage failing?) he could've made a really powerful statement here. But this ended up a little ambiguous and confusing, which is too bad. And I think @podgejeff might be right about the Nexus energy making some weird things happen, like Brian's inner demons becoming tangible. Heck, that would scare the crap out of me, too.

Torn between 2 and 3 stars, but I'll give it a three. As awkward as this was, Brian and Sybil's interactions made this story a little more compelling in spite of the confusion.

Seems like Gerber is working through some stuff here.

Gerber is reaching for literature here and in last issue. This one is a bit better.

Three stars.
