Issue Review
   November 18, 2016
Good fun. Story moves fast, with lots of interesting characters and scenes. Everything is larger than life and a bit OTT but Gerry Conway stops it from being silly, or becoming a parody. Itís a really good read. And thereís a good cliffhanger, too. 8/10

Was this "team-up" an attempt to save the Frankenstein mag? Me think so. This one may need to come before Frank #18, which switches him back to the slow talking "movie" version, which of course happens in the middle off an arc. But then again, who cares anyway? See you in hell Frankenstein!

Baron von Shtupf?! With a name like that, he better be played in the movie by either Gene Wilder or Madeline Kahn.

There once was a baron named shtupf
He was mad and a bit of a doof
He caught spider-man
Then like a bitch he ran
Cause he realized his idea's a goof.

Shtupf was definitely lame. I think lame villains will automatically get a minimum 2 star rating from now on.

On the one hand, Frankie actually looks like Frankie again, which is more than could be said for what was going on in his own book. On the other hand, they messed up his origin. He didn't kill the Doctor right away, but long long afterwards, when the Doc first turned on him. Also they didn't even mention the first rebirth up in the Arctic.
I didn't mind the villain. He's obviously more from the Hammer Horror school of villainy, but I thought it was a nice change of pace that worked.

I don't care about any of this. I thought Team-Up was starting to actually tie-in and advance core plot lines like 2-in-1, but I either misremembered or it didn't last long.

Well, at least the two actually met and teamed up, unlike the last ill-advised horror cross-over from Giant-Size Spider-Man #1 which had Dracula. This isn't much of a story here, but by now we all know that's not really the point of this title.

The inaccuracies of the flashback kind of irked me too. I think they wanted to demonstrate that the monster's mind is a little faulty (hey, the guy was stitched together from dead body parts including the brain, he's going to get stuff wrong!) The villain makes me chuckle a little bit; he's got a goofy name, plus he wants to make a monster he can control. We all know how that works out in fantasy literature, right?

2 stars. Spidey's incredulous reaction to Frankie's story makes sense, considering the events in his main title.

I donít know why Conway can not get a handle on this series. His Spider-Man and Thor runs are, at least, fun. These airless sacks of nothing are confounding in their sterility.
