By-the-numbers stuff. But the pace is fast, the hero likeable and the villain genuinely interesting. Not bad. 7/10

This reads just like Power Man--it's another "Afro Clone" hero (ala Brother Voodoo). Not really much of interest here.

  Calthor Says:

Not only is Afro Clone incredibly unoriginal, we've also seen enough 'giants' throughout the Marvel years. Yawn!

  Kez Says:

Not bad. Quick intro then straight to the action!

I'm with Kez on this. While far from extraordinary, it was not bad and they didn't waste too much time explaining how he became Black Goliath. Plus, even Bill laughs at how obvious his moniker is.

I appreciate the attention to character development.

Not bad, but so far this is no Luke Cage.

Before Power Girl brought had her famous boob window, here is Black Goliath with the ab window! Admittedly, he's pretty ripped for a scientist, but that's kind of a prerequisite for science in the Marvel U.
So far he's not doing too well though. The only two super-powered people he fought have kicked his ass.
That is one goofy looking baddie. I know that it is supposed to looking like electrons dancing around his head, but all I can think of is that he is a cartoon that just got hit in the noggin.

This is a cut above the short-lived titles of the era, in terms of character development, supporting cast, and concept (ordinary guy with super powers bumbles his way through trying to be a hero).

  Russ Says:

No, I liked this, even though this isn't in, say, Luke Cage's level of storytelling or character development. It's already done a lot better with a background and supporting cast than 3 years of Hank Pym's run back in Tales to Astonish! And the way Bill's being portrayed here has him showing a lot of heart. It makes you wonder, just a little bit, if Claire walked off with the wrong guy.

3 stars, in spite of a lackluster bad guy in look, name, and target. I'm having a little bit of a hard time caring about Atom-Smasher's interest in radium, but otherwise this is a pretty nice start to the series.
