Issue Review
   March 16, 2018
One of the best X-men comics I've ever read, I had to double-check that this was from the Silver Age. So many important changes for the universe.

The Stranger enters bringing with him a massive dose of enigma. This new character is another harbinger of greatness for Marvel Cosmic.

Here we are shown Lee's plan to disband the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Mastermind turned to immovable stone. Toad and Magneto gone out of this world. And, even better than Toad's removal (I never liked him), Wanda and Pietro have given up their tired act of villiany.

Outside of all of these positive changes, it was a great story. It was a race against time. A great story about over-ambition. Best of all, we got to see our great cast of unruly teenagers playing at superheroes.

   November 13, 2017
Very enjoyable chapter with some big changes for the series. Most of the action is driven by an enigmatic new character.

But the most interesting scenes are the ones concerning the recurring team of villains. Two of them have a change of heart and retire from the game, one is seriously incapacitated while two more are abducted and taken to a (seemingly) final fate.

Given that all of these characters have been a regular part of the series thus far, this represents a major (and very exciting) shake up.

Amid all this excitement the actual main characters get a bit lost. But that is a minor quibble. This is good stuff.

Much better. The book is really starting to take on weight as a much stronger storyline - and much more interesting book. Unfortunately, it will take a serious turn on the book - and history - to gain attention it deserves.

It brings the Stranger into the book - who could've been a one-shot pony, but the book keeps moving quickly and re-using him.

Nice to see the rest of the universe interested in some of the fearsome mutants, and sad to see that the book sort of planned to eliminate the Brotherhood and Magneto. The last throes of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as villains here, where they will join the Avengers shortly!

Issue Synopsis
Professor X's new radar-image beam detects a new mutant so powerful that it shatters the device before a clear image could be formed. Meanwhile, a man called the Stranger is unfamiliar with simple customs and walks on air and through walls until he meets the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who were expecting him.

The X-Men search for the new mutant but the police becomes suspicious of Cyclops' questions and remove his glasses, releasing his uncontrollable rays. The Beast rescues him and they regroup and resume the search while Magneto asks the Stranger to join the Brotherhood. Enraged by their demonstrations of power, the Stranger strikes, turning Mastermind solid, and the commotion attracts the X-Men.

Battle ensues but the Stranger wants no parts in it and leaves, followed by Magneto and the Toad. Left behind, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver decide to leave the Brotherhood and go back to Central Europe, saying they have repaid their debt to Magneto.

Elsewhere, Magneto demands answers and allegiance of the Stranger, but he refuses and says he is no mutant. He defeats them by wrapping Magneto and the Toad in an anti-magnetic membrane. When the X-Men arrive, the Stranger says he's from the stars and collects specimens of mutants from every planet to study in his home world - then he departs taking Magneto and the Toad. The X-Men rejoice at the prospect of no longer dealing with the threat of Magneto and go back home, but before they can relax Cerebro detects a new, deadlier menace.

I've always been a huge fan of this cover. There's hardly anything that says who the Stranger is and nothing hyping the issue. It's basic in the best way.

I loved this issue. The Stranger is fascinating, and it was great seeing Magneto just completely humiliated.

This one was pretty interesting, but it was weird that they all just let the Stranger take two people and even rejoiced about it. C'mon, a weird alien is abducting people, guys! It's just your dumb luck it was someone you didn't like.

The X-Men need to review their processes, they're always behind the Brotherhood in the mutant seqarches.
I don't think the implied Scarlet Witch-Cyclops connection ever played out.

If Witch and Quicksilver are looking to avoid conflict, their next move is exactly the wrong one.

End of an era! Magneto and Bros make their final appearance here (they will be back of course..heh heh heh) Everything worked great here. The Stranger is one scary dude, I still don't understand his character! And Kirby with Chic Stone are just amazing showcasing the Stranger do his "strange" stuff. One other thing I like to point out is the cover. Look at that! Hardly any blurbs on there!

  5'm giving this 4 stars
- While far from perfect, I was really entertained.
- Marvel's second "cosmic" character - I like the Stranger.
- Look like Magneto and the Toad are gone for good!
- One of the best, if not the best, issue of X-Men at this point in the order.
- Finally some advancement in the Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch plotline!

3 stars for the 1st app of the Stranger! Who may seem strange for he is a stranger in a strange land!

Cover Me - Like others have said; this is a awesome cover! I also like how they show his name on the billboard.

Convenient - I was going to ask why Cyclops wasn't in uniform, but then we wouldn't of had the mutant profiling incident.

Copycat - The Stranger's Cone of Energy looks a lot like Lucifer's artificial Dust Devil....

On The Side Of Angels - Finally, Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch are free of Magneto....well, for a time anyway.

You Came A Long Way Baby - After seeing the X-Copter in action...the Blackbird can't come fast enough!!!

'Nuff Said - "Now, listen!! I am master of my band of mutants! When I ask--others answer!"-Magneto

  Domin8 Says:

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just glad to be rid of that Magneto fellow. He certainly was a downer. But it's very clear we'll be seeing no more of that bad seed. I mean...Prof removed his little inserter label right out of Cerebro. That's kindof a big deal. Pretty much spells out his fate: Out of Cerebro, out of existence.

  Tarquinnff3 Says:
  2014-07-17 06:37:32
Not a bad issue. I like that Quick and Scarlet decided to leave Magneto before they knew he was gone. It's also good to see the third side of the mutant viewpoint too, no fighting please. It is getting kind of repetitive watching villains float of into space only to appear again a few issues down the road. "Magneto is gone? Okay, just wait a few months, he'll be back."

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:
  2014-08-02 15:25:10
3 stars. Sort of anticlimactic the way Magneto leaves. Looks like Mastermind will be back. The witch and Quicksilver have finally left the Brotherhood... About time. The mag is getting better and better.

And the story was very interesting! Wonder, how Magneto and the others come back to life! And the twins finaly stop being evil! :) Nice!!

2. I don't exactly understand what the Hex power is, but Wanda and Pietro are very interesting characters

Looks like I'm in the minority on this one... I didn't care for the story much, although I did like the Stranger. The individual pieces worked for me, but as a whole, the story (mostly the dialog) just fell flat.

I did like the artwork, although Scott out of uniform looked bizarre.

I think the same about the overall story, seemed a little flat but also kinda forced to me.
But the ending (Abduction of Magneto and Toad (Maybe Toad comes back with a brain and a spine, can't stand him beeing such dumb and submissive retard)) caught me really by surprise...nice one...also the foreshadowing of the huge menace *pun intended* was nice...

  • That's my line "McCoy might have been injured by your prank!(Professor X) Something your Danger Room would never do, I supposed?

  • The Toad is really, really, really unbearable! Really!

  • Err... What's with the boots, Frosty?

  • I winced when I heard Pietro tell Wanda she takes orders from him now!

  • I wonder why Professor X asks the Beast to stop the policemen. First, he would make a better job simply using his power. Second, his solution involves more antagonism with law enforcement.

  • Anyone loved seeing Magneto' disgrace as much as I? "Shut up, boy! You're out of your league!"

  • I enjoyed this issue a lot, filled with plenty of interesting twists, like Pietro and Wanda finally leaving the Brotherhood, Mastermind turned solid and Magneto and the Toad captured by their prospect. The Stranger is quite an intriguing character. I hope we see more of him. The ending got me extremely curious and I was delighted to see that the Order has placed two more X-Men stories just ahead. Despite the above minor details, this is worth 5 stars!

  StrictSnow Says:

NO! Scott is *looking* at another woman! But no, seriously, that was the best X-Men so far. A lot of shake-ups. Wanda and Pietro leaving Magneto's Brotherhood, Mastermind in carbonite, and Toad and Magneto sent beyond the stars. The Stranger is a super interesting "antagonist" and I hope to see more of him in the future. I'm looking forward to the next few issues.

One star, despite the cover, because I really, really, really, hate these "Oh, and the guy was a powerful space alien" twist ending. Lame, lame, lame. The Toad deserved better.
