Major change of pace, with a lame villain making for a lame comic. Disappointing. 4/10

Where in the f**k did they come up with this piece of s**t? Where do I even begin? This makes some of those silver age Torch books look good.
In a weak spot for The CMRO, Doc goes from a galactic struggle against Eternity over the future of the planet, to rescuing the superfluous Nighthawk from a dickcheese named "Tapping Tommy."
Why would TT ransom Nighthawk when he's obviously got plenty of money for dancin' and singin' robots?
Nighthawk obviously doesn't give a s**t about his secret identity--making a costume change in the middle of a fight.
This is definitely a low point for the still green Bill Mantlo.
@Starnes: 3 stars? WTF?
"Come out to the coast. We'll get together. Have a few laughs." Indeed.

Well, it wasn't art...but it wasn't terrible. Not compared to some of the other stuff out there (Howard, I am looking at you). Yea, the villain is silly, but generally I like the dysfunctional makeup of the Defenders

  Calthor Says:
  2013-03-02 13:40:58
Wow. This was abysmally bad - compared to anything else in this point in the Order, this is several levels worse.

  Canuck Says:
  2013-04-14 15:13:44
Truly horrible. Is this honestly the best they were able to pull off? With such a diverse and dynamic cast (minus Nighthawk), they should easily be able to create some interesting storyline's.

I usually enjoy the Defenders, but this. This. This. This I don't know. But I think that if this was the first comic I read, it would be the last comic I read.

There are no words to explain how incredibly sucky this was.

I get tired of Nighthawk as the damsel in distress.

Yeah, this is probably the worst I've read in the order yet.

I really enjoyed this one. While I agree that it was not high art, it did make me chuckle. I certainly enjoyed it more than the moody, brooding Doctor Strange we get in his own magazine.

  skalchemist Says:

That felt like a Robot Chicken version of the Defenders, except that would have been funny, and Tommy's head would have exploded when the a Hulk gave him a Glasgow kiss. So yeah, this was awful.

It's almost as if someone dared Bill Mantlo to write a comic script in the style of a Hanna Barbera superhero cartoon, a slapstick team-hijinx style with little regard for continuity or plausibility that thankfully hasn't shown up at all in the Order until this point. Maybe someone was getting jealous of the popularity of the Super-Friends? At least there's no Wonder Pet, but Hulk has to play that role. *puts fists on hips* "Ohhhhh Hulk! Your friendly headbutt knocked out a villain AGAIN? Don't be MY friend that way!" (comical trombone sound)

Saying this s**t was better than Howard is the worst insult for comic books readers I can imagine.

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:

I've read pre-school Barbie books to my daughter that had better plot and realism than this garbage. I'm pretty sure I said this in an early X-Men comment, but it fits here also. I've read more interesting things from the sesame seeds in my sh*t on the toilet paper that I wiped mya**with. This made me want to gouge my eyes with a rusty tea kettle while having tea with Salad Fingers. Long story short, this was crap!

  scottyjrules Says:

Wait...Valkerie's "no fighting other women" rule applies to robots? Just when I think Bill Mantlo can't get any more terrible he goes and proves me wrong. Every. Single. Time.

  Garfieldicus Says:

"Tapping Tommy is no third-rate hood!" I agree. Tapping Tommy makes third-rate hoods look like the supervillain all-star team.

Worst comic in the order so far. Horrific.

I thought this was funny, and the Defenders are awesome. This is my all time favorite Defenders lineup.

I wouldn't mind seeing Tapping Tommy in other silly comics, lke Howard or Squirrel Girl.

NightHawk continues to be incredibly useless.

Jeez you guys are overreacting to this. Yes it was silly, and was complete tonal whiplash coming off of Strange's solo arc, but the worst comic in the Order? Worse than solo Torch stories? Worse than Ant-Man stories? Worse than Sons of the Tiger? Come on people. It was just a silly nonsense comic, but it was nowhere near that bad.
Val being unable to attack "female" robots was pretty stupid though. Apparently you can throw a pair of fake breasts on anything and she's powerless against them. Please tell me Loki tries this at some point!

  Russ Says:

I can see now. "Hey Bill, write a Defenders story like how Adam West would write it!" "Done!"

This is about on a level as that kook Rasputin and that load of lionbarf from Iron Man #56. Oh, this is bad, alright, but it works much better as a parody than canon. Right down to, I imagined Doc's pose on the last panel as him saying "Th-th-th-th-that's it, fellas!"

2 stars. I was hoping Valkyrie would be the one to knock out Tapping Tommy. It'd make sense to end it that way if he had looked at her and said "I'd tap that!"

  grayrender Says:

Mantlo should have been fired on the spot for this nonsense.
