It's a fun issue, and it's hard to understand why Avengers, F4, Spidey, Dr. Strange were getting much better stories than Iron Man, Captain America (the Sleepers, ugh) and Shield around this time...

  Daredevil Says:

Isn't this just a rehash of the Wonder Man storyline? - except the swordsman isn't killed.

  Safis Says:

Even if he has a change of heart, I wouldn't trust the Swordsman right away. I'd say he should have a least a two-year probationary period where he's not involved in the Avengers and has to prove he's changed. Usually the villains can't seem to last more than a couple of months at most before they're itching to try out some new plan anyway.

Ok, we know there are probably a dozen Marvel villains that could produce an image of Iron Man, plus another dozen that could mind control him. So an image of Iron man appears, gives orders, and nobody questions his authenticity. There should at least be a code word of some kind.

Jeez, is any male character able to see a female character without instantly wanting to get with her?

  danberado Says:

@ Anonymous, it seems to go both ways. All of the women characters instantly swoon over all of the male characters as well.

But maybe its not the crazy... you know what the world's best athletes do when they're staying at the Olympic village every 4 years.

We're talking hormones and super humans here.

Anybody else find it a tad hypocritical for an Avengers team comprised of Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch to turn down anybody else for having a questionable past?

I love when Cap told Hawkeye, “Get your finger out of my face before you lose it”. YES !!!
Cap seems to be getting a little fed up with Hawkeye's mouth.

I felt this was just a recycled version of the Wonder Man story line. Very disappointed in Stan with this little arc. 3 stars.

3 stars for the Swordsman & Mandy teaming up to take on those accursed Avengers!!

Pizzazz - Mandy's throne and gadgets look spiffier in this issue; must be Wally Wood's inks!

Glory Days - Weird, that in the days that the Swordsman was an Avenger. He didn't figure out who Hawkeye was, or that Hawkeye didn't even bring it up??

'Nuff Said - "Maybe I do shoot my mouth off too much!"-Hawkeye

I still think Cap's shield should be magnetized.

Mandarin was fun to see, but I think a fair few people know he is more than an old wive's tale.

I love that Quiksilver says the other two male Avengers are "too hot tempered."

Good art, though Woody's inks seem less Wood-like than usual. Good characterization of the Avengers, though Wanda is a sieve. I'd be tempted to give it 4 stars if I didn't find Mandarin and Swordsman such dull characters.

A good resolution to the cliffhanger ending from the previous issue. Nice teamwork, everyone gets a chance to shine, but then the bickering starts again.

But man, Mandarin's put-down of Hawkeye sure did shut him up pretty quick. Bullseye!

Captain America is really starting to annoy me. He should have hit the road with Ant Man. Nevertheless, these last few issues have begun to take on a serial, rather than episodic, nature; and, in my opinion, they are more the better for it. For the first time in the order, I am beginning to enjoy consecutive issues. I like it.

I have to subtract 1 star for the sheer idiocy of taking the word of an Iron Man hologram.

  • That's my line – "He's sending me back the way I came! Well, anyhow, it beats taking a bus!" (Swordsman)

  • Oh, this incessant bickering within the group is starting to be very irritating. They are all acting like immature brats! The other Avengers have a point though. How can you fight for democracy if you can't apply the same principle in your own team? On the other hand, the new members have just arrived in the team and they already want to overthrow the leader so I have to side with Cap.

  • I wonder how you can maintain a firm grip on that new and improved sword without triggering one of the buttons.

  • Good thing the Swordsman did not bring a date home when the Mandarin showed up in the middle of the night. Well of course, with the time zones, he has an excuse!

  • I like that the Swordsman was having second thoughts at the end. Also, I agree that the Avengers not questioning the authenticity of Iron Man is a bit too much, especially after Cap has pointed out that Iron Man's voice was off! But for good action and good art, 4 stars!

Does anyone else find it kind of funny that Cap has such a bromantic interest in Fury, yet Tony Stark has been working with SHIELD the entire time?
