Finally, someone finds out about a hero's secret identity and doesn't try to kill him. I like this development.

As do I. On that same note, it doesn't make any sense to me at all why Captain America would hide his secret identity.

Cap would have more freedom operating outside of the Army ranks also. I guess Simon & Kirby didn't think it through back in the forties.

These Cap stories are just a tad too bland...

So this Captain America issue is a flashback, and the story opens with a flashback to the events of the last issue, which was also a flashback.

Just 1 star for more Dr. Rawlings and those naughty Nazis!

Castle Greymoor - As castles go; it's pretty crappy looking...

No Prize - On page 9, panel 3-4 on the first panel Sgt. Duffy's not wearing gloves, but on the next one he is. Or, that guy with him is patting himself on the back!

Small Minded - And, that's why you lost the war, Fritz! The doctor created a shrink ray, and you're not interested in it!!!

Igor - Also, what happened to his hunched back assistant from the last issue?

'Nuff Said - "Courage is for fools, American!"-Major Uberhart

3 stars for a better story and cliffhanger. I'm fighting sleep to get the next issue in.

Locust is spot on again, if this was the nazi mentality regarding scientific findings, no wonder they lost the war.

I don't think Lee knows what to do with Cap. Feels like he is just recycling stories or story ideas from the 40's. At least in Avengers Cap seems to have some purpose.

  GroovyGolem Says:

Terrible continuity from the previous issue, what with the apparently senseless shrink ray subplot being dropped, and Bucky's Z-ray exposure not even mentioned or explored. What effects will they have?!?

Cedric sort of reminds me of the Red Ghost without his apes.

So Cap is an ace pilot too? What can't he do?

I like how the Nazis claimed that they needed the scientist to trap Captain America, but the scientist did literally nothing to help capture Captain America.

Urgh, I don't know how much longer I'm going to last with these Cap stories...

  • That's my line "I knew he was a goldbrick... but I never thought Rogers would turn... deserter!" (Sgt. Duffy) A bit out of character for Duffy, if I may say so. Maybe the man is not a complete idiot after all!

  • Tuska's drawings are quite stereotyped and remind me of the Golden Age. He's not bad, but not worth the praise he got in the credits either.

  • This discussion between Dr. Rawlings and his sister over his treason is getting old now. I understand Stan wants to recap a bit for those who missed the previous issue, but it's still annoying reading the same crappy backstory over and over!

  • Not much is worth commenting on here. Everything in the plot was telegraphed miles away. Not even the cliffhanger is compelling. 2 stars, just because there was no major goofiness.

  1. Strangely, I find myself rooting for the mad Doctor. I want him to give those skeptical Nazis their comeuppance. Won't happen, of course.
  2. I love how the artist had to shrink the bomber to fit under a bridge.
  3. Cap—a frontal assault is never unexpected. Not in war.
  4. I thought the booby trap was the last resort, not the first. That would have been a good plan. I am so, so tired of stupid, easily-defeated villains. Nazis were many things—stupid was not one of them.
  5. Hm. The trap worked anyway. I guess that makes sense; he thought the trap had already been sprung.
  6. P. 9: You assume a man missing after combat is a deserter? Really? That's the first thought that comes to mind?
  7. Nazis…in uniform…secretly imported a V-2 rocket into England. Right.

I'm surprised by how much I'm liking these Cap flashbacks. I guess WWII stories appeal to almost everyone. ★★★
