The rewriting of 40s stories is not yielding anything entertaining.

This had a dramatic ending...not too bad.

2 Stars for Dr. Rawlings going out in a blaze of glory!

'Nuff Said - "You're trigger happy, like all Nazis!"-Bucky

2 stars. Not the ending I expected, especially considering Rogers is still a deserter. Hopefully this gets addressed in the next issue.

The ending was good. Big explosions and an "unquenchable thirst for freedom".

A perfect ending as everything happens exactly as it should. Our heroes overcome adversity, the villains meet ignoble defeat brought on by their own faults, and redemption, tragedy and madness occur for our traitor.

Tuska's art continues to shine. I only wish we could have a full Kirby cover for each Cap ToS issue instead of every other month.

More flaws, more fun, I don't mind this kind of arc in small doses.

Has anyone else noticed how many splash pages feature Cap's crotch prominently?

Poor Celia... Not only did she get shot, but she aged 40 years in the span of 2 issues. Must have been due to all that secondary Z-ray exposure. She never had a chance.

Loved it. The drama and the flaws were awesome.

Not even Celia's death could save this terrible issue.

I don't think this story arc was adapted from anything published in the '40's. Maybe our resident experts have something about it I don't.

At any rate, I wouldn't go so far as to call this arc a masterpiece, but it was pretty good in spite of its flaws. The suspense level was actually pretty high, and the ending was good enough to make you stand up and cheer if this were a movie.

Of course, the one dangling thread......Steve Rogers's desertion. This one needs to be answered. *spoiler next sentence* But we go back to the present day next issue, so we won't be getting that story as of yet (maybe an explanation, but a story on it would be better)

No. I've gone through all Golden Age Cap stories some time ago, and that story does not ring a bell at all. But then again, I may be wrong and simply forgot about this unmemorable plot...

  • That's my line "Himmel! Was ist los??" (Verdammte Nazi)

  • What's with the buck teeth Tuska gives to his evil characters everywhere?

  • Bwokka! Bwokka! That's the way Nazi guns should sound!!

  • First time I realize this, but Bucky's courage is commendable. I mean, the kid has no super-powers, and no shield, yet he can hold his own in a fight! No wonder kids in the 40's had such an admiration. Any teenager would aspire to that!

  • I do not know if this is intentional, but Rawlings lost his glasses in a fight last issue, and he's still not wearing them. Good continuity, but I'm not sure it's not simply a lucky omission.

  • Call it a calculated guess, but Cap was lucky his troop followed a regular strategy, because his action could have been catastrophic! Too far-fetched for my liking!

  • Since when is Captain America knowledgeable enough to double-check another scientist's calculation? I know his brain has been enhanced, but you need some extensive background in Physics and Engineering to do so, right?

  • Hmm... I was hoping for a resolve on Rogers's apparent desertion! Guess it'll have to wait!

  • Again, everything was so predictable. I simply cannot find it in me to give more than 2 stars. I mean the whole three-part story I wouldn't ever dare calling it an arc is not exciting and original enough, and Tuska has yet to prove he can draw this series.

And there it was again...this terrible german accent.
But I noticed that only the lower ranked soldiers spoke it in this one...so it must be that the higher ranks get educated in english...interesting!

As a german, I always have to smile on german words pluralized in english.
Best example: Schweinhunds XD (would be "Schweinehunde" in german)

No, just ballistics. Rather more involved ballistics than what's needed to direct artillery shells, but ballistics is nonetheless a military skill, which Cap might have picked up somewhere. That and a good math education might be enough to follow someone else's calculations, if not to make them yourself.
