ISSUE REVIEW

by zweineuf: Reading Silver Age comics has its highs and lows, and I always assumed that getting to the first appearance of the Ani-Men would be one of the lows. However, while this issue isn't stellar, it has its merits.

This is one of the few early Marvel issues not written by Stan Lee, although we can be sure his editorial presence didn't go unnoticed by Wally Wood, who does the honors of writing. His style is subtly different from Stan's; his dialogue in particular has a bit more of a rough edge to it - in a good way.

Did i get something wrong or did he help them break into the vault they were already in? That's just stupid.

This only could have been worse with real animals.

Why would they keep their "funds" in a box at HQ instead of, oh IDK, in a bank?

Aww, c'mon, it wasn't that bad. The animal foes were strange, sure, and we even got the first 'censored' "F****d" on Marvel cronology.

For the sake of my sanity, I'm trying to focus on the hilarity, but I could barely get through this issue, despite the fact it has foes in animal costumes.
