Seidring? Doesn't that mean magicians or whatever in ancient norse? What does that have to do with the character? (I assume it's something like that because Seidr is magic, so...)

Thor has natural cunning? Where did he get that idea?

  Webslinger Says:

  1. Allow me the poor pun, but where, for God's sake has Loki been while Thor was bad favored among Asgard?? He might had talked Odin to a much worst penalty.

2. What now, is Odin so sorry for punishing his son that Jane has fallen on his favor?

  instantdeath999 Says:

At times, Odin seems like Thor's biggest enemy.

Odin could easily win abusive father of the year.

  Robareid Says:

Wasn't a fan of this issue.

Hercules was shown very much as Thor's inferior, which was annoying, as he should be his equal.

And Tales of Asgard just made the last ten tales of Asgard completely pointless.

not the prettiest book, bloody (that means "gosh darn" in England, btw) Colletta-looks hurried throughout; dialog is truly silly, a classic! (first ever issue of Thor solo book- indexed in "T" for "Thor" on MDCU db....uh, guys, the book is titled "The Mighty Thor"(?))...form the MDCU FAQ: Look For Hulk in "H" & Spider-Man in "S"...not really...(3)

  leisch Says:

I think this is the first issue where Thor is in full Thor-speak "Thee, thou, shalt, whilst"
Jeez, Odin's an ass. No wonder the Norse gods fell out of favor.

  Raistlin903 Says:

  "My Mallet!"
"My Hammer!"
"My Mallet!"
"My Hammer!"
"I will smite thee!"
"I will smite thee more!"

And Jane caused it all cause she was that quick to just jump on the next immortal that came along......

The all powerful Odin is kind of a jerk.

  Anonymous Says:
  2014-04-13 14:03:29
Odin is such a dumb character at this point. It's like he had a different writer each week that only had to stick to the rule that he's a jerk.

Hands down the best fight sequence thus far in the order. Thor continues to be one of the highlights of the Silver Age books...

  metasynthie Says:

I kind of get the impression that Odin's behavior is supposed to fall into the Marvel mold of "capricious God whose vast motives are bizarre beyond human understanding" here (much like say, Galactus) but it's a little hard to empathize with any father who goes from "angry about son dating a supposedly lesser species" to "gonna cause son to throw fight" to "oops feeling bad now, send lesser species girl after son" in the space of an issue, but that might be more "below human understanding" than "beyond human understanding."

On the other hand, Thor fighting Hercules is kind of nice in that it's a clash of personalities, and Thor is sort of fighting a younger, more carefree version of his currently love-family-emostruck self. Hercules is even struck by HOW emo Thor is at one point -- he's not just a dullard at all!

  gloomyharvester Says:
  2014-07-27 08:01:23
Going back to the last time Odin took half of Thor's power, I don't remember that power ever being restored. They might be taking Thor down to quarter-power here. That may be intentional on the All-Father's part. Or it may be an oversight. They drink their mead deeply in Asgard, and sometimes give themselves the Gift of Forgetfulness by mistake.

  marvelcomicslover Says:

Jack must have wept when he saw what Colletta had done to his artwork.

Someone please tell me when did Thor get all his powers back from Odin the last time they were halved? I don't remember it unless it was like a 2 week grounding?

  Locust75 Says:

Just 3 stars. I wanted to give it more, but like Robareid said, Herc should be on par with Thor!

Cover Me - Grapple in the Big Apple!!!

The View - It seems like every issue Odin has a different viewing screen, ball, machine, or crystal to watch from!

Breaker, Breaker - Cool scene of Thor and Herc tearing apart the big rig to get to each other!!!

Double Take - On page 6, panel 3 is that the lame Dr. Blake??

Player - You can tell Seidring is da man! He has a helmet as big as Odins!

Waste - And, just like the Demon, the Queen Bee falls flat...

'Nuff Said - "Your hunger for battle is a disease--and the hammer of Thor shall supply thy cure!"-Thor

Herc makes a great foil for Thor here. This is the first time in the order that I've noticed a fight between 2 heroes based on personality/values rather than a dumb misunderstanding. Big step forward in the storytelling.

And wow, those guys were on a slow boat to nowhere, in Tales of Asgard.

Sorry, you saw Hercules coming off as Thor's inferior? I thought it showed they were very evenly matched. The only ways I saw Hercules as inferior were his character and his weapon.

What the eff..... That ending makes me hate Odin even more than ever!!! Before he was just farcical, but with this latest about-face he's crossed the line! I don't think I've ever felt more frustrated (tempering my words here) by a piece of fiction than I do now...
Damn, that ending really nearly distracted me from what an awesome prolonged fight scene this story was. Gotta ignore those last three panels in order to give this comic the star-rating it deserves.

Yappity yappity yappity. I know Silver Age characters are quite verbose, but stop talking trash and start swingin' already!!

And I'm not buying your crocodile tears, Odin!

  RobinHoodMtl @ gloomyharvester (original post):

Thor's power had been cleary restored a couple of issues after. It just was not done with a big fanfare.

  RobinHoodMtl Says:

  • That's my line – "Another mighty Marvel instant resumé: Hercules has come to Earth! He's got the big eye for Thor's chick! Goldilocks is bugged, but good! So they're fighting it out! There! That's as painless as we can make it!" (Narrator) – I like it when Stan gets to the point!

  • No wonder that cover will become a classic!

  • I cannot believe two gods are actually fighting for such an insignificant woman! What a waste! Must do wonders for any girl's self-esteem though!

  • I wonder who is going to pay for that poor, poor truck? Or for everything else after that? J.B.?

  • One can conclude that Gods fighting each other make the most boring and painful dialogs!

  • This is the second time Odin decides on the same punishment for his son, yet this time he claims that he cannot bring himself to inflict it. But we all know he did it himself under similar circumstances in the past. Is Odin turning yellow? And also, the old man obviously has no imagination.

  • It makes no sense that the crowd would suddenly be so cruel and coldhearted towards a fallen hero!

  • Wait... whaaaat? OK, that's it! Odin is officially bipolar... or senile! After all this fuss he made, now he's sending Jane to his son to comfort him?

  • Sorry, but only 3 stars this time and I'm being generous. Kirby was still great with fight scenes but Coletta botched too many panels. It was a great battle, but I skipped several speech bubbles because they were horrible! And Odin's obscure agenda still eludes me. Only Hercules saved it from a 2-star score.

  Urgat @ RobinHoodMtl (original post):

Sorry Robin, but I have to contradict you on the crowd-matter a little bit...

How they reacted to the defeat of, what they always deemed an unbeatable "God", is exactly as I thought it would happen. All hail the new unbeatable entity...nobody wants to be a "fan" of losers in some way

I give you that they wouldn't be so harsh to Thor because they still know he is very powerful but...the overall reaction of ignoring Thor is not far fetched

IMHO of course ;-)

  RobinHoodMtl @ Urgat (original post):
  2017-01-23 21:47:04
Well, it's a comic book, so what's to expect! Still, I would imagine they could be not so nasty with him, given that he pretty much saved humanity a couple of times. It's like insulting a war veteran because he got injured in battle. No one would ever do that!

Also, it's OK to be the fan of a winner, but does that mean winning makes you a good guy? Just sayin'!
