Great issue. Definitely a "classic." I'm giving it my first 5* star rating in the order so far. My only knock is that ridiculous "G" on the chest of Galactus.

  Neskit Says:

100% like the purple suit for Galactus then that monstrosity he first appeared in.

  Shark Says:
  2012-03-24 09:11:51
Good ending to the Inhumans' introduction story (that Human Torch character developement), and a classic turning point for Marvel with the creation of Silver Surfer and Galactus.
What makes me go "what" is the Watcher's face in the cover. It's like he just woke one morning, eating his divine cereal, going all "Oh boy, time to watch some... *sees Galactus*... NOPE".

  Canuck Says:
  2012-06-09 10:09:54
The Silver Surfer is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe, and so I've been anticipating the Galactus' arrival, and it doesn't disappoint.
Is Sue getting more ditzy and stupid? No wonder Reed is always snapping at her, that's what you get for marrying the blonde; although, she definitely looks better with the new hair.

Well, we can add astrophysics to the list of things Stan doesn't understand- how many times did a supernova randomly explode, damaging nothing?

Alright, I don't buy the Watcher's act. It's all a big lie about not interfering.

Glad the Silver Surfer is here.

  Robareid Says:

That wrap up to the Inhumans arc was really week. The Galactus bit was very good though, although the Watcher just completely goes against his mantra.

  leisch Says:

The Silver Surfer concept should be silly, but damn it works. Imagine how silly the FF/Silver Surfer movie would have seemed if Galactus showed up as a 20ft tall man in a skirt and a big G for his outfit.

I love Galactus and it great fun reading his first appearance....... yeah the greeen and red was a little wierd, thank god that was only for a page.......

Silver Surfer was great.......

Watcher should just say screw it, I get involved when i get involved, deal with it........ then he wouldn't have to start evrything he says with explaining it........

Great issue and a true classic. The hurried wrap of the inhumans arc and Stan's romance drama with Johnny in love with crystal are the only things that prevent the 5 star rating.

For those following the order, how big a reward was this story arc?

Great intro for a character. I wish Galactus would have come in a later issue and developed a better relationship with The Surfer first.

WOW !!! I forgot that after the Inhumans comes the Galactus trilogy...I'm so excited !!!
My only question...where are the Avengers, SHIELD, and every other major player while this is going on..?

For whatever reason, that lampost in the background of the cover page intrigues me.

Negative Zone ftw!

Story takes quite a turn here with this issue.
Silver Surfer appears as a cool bad guy xD
"Devourer of Worlds" finally enters the Marvel Universe!

10 stars for the 1st app of Galactus & Silver Surfer!!!!

Cover Me - A great image of the sense of dread that everyone is feeling!@arsenal009: That is one sweet lookin' lamppost...too bad it's goin' get devoured. Also, NO, you don't want to see Galactus in his green & red with a giant "G" on his chest!

Owned - Great image of Black Bolt bitch slapping Maximus!!!

Buggy - Hmmm...for some reason I think we will hear the term "Negative Zone" again...

MIA - Character appearances list Triton & Lockjaw in this issue, but you never see them!

Set The Mood - I recommend listing to Joe Satriani's "Surfing with the Alien" while reading about the Silver Surfer!

Go With The Flow - I think it might be that time of the month for Sue...

Photoshop - Man, I think Galactus gets his testing devices at surplus!

'Nuff Said - "He is what he wishes to be! He is--Galactus!"-Utah the Watcher

@Locust75, Arsenal009. That's what lamp posts actually looked like to Jack Kirby. Just draw what you see Jack.

Fantastic comic.

1st appearance of Kirby Krackle p7/8?

  Bramwell Says:
  2014-11-17 21:03:52
This issue is crazy! The storyline switch on the fly is good, the art is ridiculous, and bringing Uatu, SS, and Galactus just makes the Inhumans look puny in comparison....and that is after the Inhumans made all other enemies look insignificant.

  Bramwell Says:
  2014-11-17 21:12:42
And Uatu's title should change from the Watcher to the Interferer. He interferes every single time. I have a theory that he is just screwing with Reed about the whole non-interference thing. How about this...."I don't interfere when I am just narrating some silver age twilight zone pulp...but whens**tgets real you bet I am INTERFERING!"

Great story but I'm killing a star for Stan's continued terrible depiction of women. I also wouldn't fault her for acting mad after the way Reed's been treating her. Maybe a bit of Stockholm syndrome too.

  heman0420 Says:
  2015-01-24 00:51:27
It doesn't get any more threatening than Galactus. I did rate it a 3, but issue 49 and 50 put this story arc over the top.

  GroovyGolem Says:
  2015-04-13 22:10:55
So for all you folks in the know... Is this negative zone THE Negative Zone? Or does Reed stumble upon that when trying to open a portal to the Inhumans at some later stage? I've never read this story arc before.

Does any one else see a resemblance between The Watcher and Varys from Game of Thrones? They look like each other, have the same posture and neither are willing to get their own hands dirty and play others as puppets for a larger purpose. I can't help but hear Varys's voice when I read The Watcher's words now.

Daaamn! Your first? Talk about self-restraint! Not even early Spidey got any fives from you?? I give sparingly, but still this is probably around my sixth or seventh.

Hoo boy! This guy is the stuff of legends! I've never read any Galactus comics but have known about his awesome might since I was a kid, so this is THE issue I've been waiting for since FF #1 and the start of the order! Iconic cover, too! And the Silver Surfer, one of my fave heroes since childhood features too! Only negative (no pun intended) is that the Inhumans arc ending seemed a bit rushed to me. Shame. Still, five stars from me!!!

----SPOILER (ish, referring to current marvel events)----

What the hell, Uatu? It seems like you took a pledge to ALWAYS interfere with events. I'm starting to be happy you got shot and had your eyes ripped out.

  • That's my line "You're wastin' yer time! C'mon, take a poke at me... It'll make ya feet better! And... I deserve it!" (Thing)

  • How I love the face of Black Bolt right before he smacks him on page 3!

  • Wow! Deep space sure is colorful place!!

  • I've been waiting a long time to reread this arc. I vividly remember how much I was impressed by Silver Surfer back in the days. He's such a cool-lookin' dude!

  • What's with Sue now? Does being married mean she has to lose all her senses and act like a shallow housewife? Reed, have you done your husbandly duties? Because she seriously sounds like she needs to get laid!

  • It's nice to see the Watcher again, whose body is still expanding in the universe! That's what happens to galactic couch potatoes! Great giant panel from Kirby, by the way!

  • So, Galactus is here to basically... eat our planet! Now THAT is a glutton!

  • Someone please explain how come there is a letter G on the uniform of a being who has never read our alphabet and why he would be so accommodating to Earthlings that he would use something they'll recognize right before destroying their world! As if the letter M for the Mandarin was not bad enough!

  • Gluttony took to me too, because I devoured this story! I found it interesting how they would finish an arc to begin another right in the middle of the issue. 5 stars for this classic!
