Have to say, I really enjoy the wiggling around the Comics Code Stan is doing here. Villains are not allowed to be morally ambiguous or portrayed as sympathetic at all, but Galactus is even called "beyond good and evil here", and is said to not do what he does out of any evil intent. Definitely one of the most interesting villains created in this era.

As for the rest, as always, Stan's idealism is really heartwarming.

The end of the galactus trilogy and comics will never be the same again. This is definitely the crowning achievment of Stan & Jack's FF run.

honestly i dunno what the big deal was. this arc was ok but should have been 2 issues instead of 3, same as the inhumans arc.

So last time out we left an all powerful alien being bent on the destruction of the earth, but rest assured dear readers, for Johnny will indeed go to college!

so we get a couple pages to finish Galactus and Silver Surfer.......

then the remander of the issue we spend watching Johnny pine away for a girl he barely knows........

The Thing is so involved in his own pity party that he mistakenly dumps/walks out on his girl leaving her to the silver surfer who isn't even interested....... I'm really starting to hate the "poor me I'm the Thing" angle we got going on here.......

and Reed who went from "I love her so much I don't dare marry her" to being a borderline abusive husband (I thought that was Pym's MO)........

good thing the FF have really interesting enemies/adventures cause otherwise i wish Galactus would have just eaten them........

Nice story arc, but I was hoping for a little more. Wrapped up a little too quickly for me. First appearance of Wyatt Wingfoot lets it keep 4 stars.

What about the Thing? His face is way more different than a typical human's.

I don't like it when they leave the end of the arc to the fist pages of the next issue and then go to something completely irrelevant. I like ongoing stories through multiple issues but I want them to end at the end of an issue not at the beginning...

  TaoTaomona Says:

I get that Marvel brought human life stories and depth to their characters, but the finale should have more of the action than just half the book and six pages on Johnny' s start at school.

So how exactly does Silver Surfer fighting with Galactus ruin The Watcher's plan to defend mankind?

Lame cover page.

Not liking the new style of ending an arc half way through the comic & continuing the book with something unrelated.

I like the introduction of so many new characters but the writing in this arc is very poor.

I forgot how fun the FF comics were at times. I had been focusing so much on slogging through X-Men to get to the good stuff that I put all other series on the back burner. I did make a point to check out Silver Surfer's first appearance remembering Chris Claremont's mention that it was Stan and Jack at the height of their creativity. He was right, this trilogy of stories was really great.

4 stars for more galactic goodness that fizzles out at good ol' Metro U!

Cover Me - Hang Ten, Moon Doggy!!!

Mini -I always liked that the Ultimate Nullifier is so small; instead of some giant machine.

Wingfoot - I wonder if Stan got the name from Namor?

Blue Bunny - On page 20, panel 3 Black Bolt's crown is colored blue making him look like he's got floppy ears!

'Nuff Said - "You have given a match to a child who lives in a tinderbox!"-Galactus

Odd anti-climax. Still amazing Inhumans and Silver Surfer / Galactus run. Along with the birth of Spider-man the best thing about the early Silver Age.
It definitely showcased Kirby's art. I've read a shade under 300 issues in the run (got tired of Antman and Human Torch solos among others) and sometimes I wondered about the Kirby legend. Some of the art seemed rushed and spare. When he was motivated / had the time, he was stunning.

So I wonder at what point between this and the previous issue did Galactus look down and realize he forgot to put on his pants?

"Greetings, Earthlings! Your energy will sustain me for... son of a... Herald! Bring me my galactic trousers!"

Should have used the whole issue for Galactus. A few extra pages to make the final confrontation more dramatic would have been nice, but it was still an awesome and important point for Marvel comics. We'll done.

Call me a noob, but I've never heard of Wyatt Wingfoot, and I'm very interested to see if he has powers or plays a larger role in the comic down the road. Also, Ben, dude... don't be so emotional. You're as hard as a rock on the outside, but a whimpering crybaby inside.

Clever ol' Stan. The second I found myself thinking "Where the H is this going?" he apologises for being long-winded. Nevertheless, that's the second time a story arc has finished mid-comic, not sure I particularly like the trend. -1 star.
Notwithstanding that, the Galactus ending was less disappointing than expected, and the cliffhanger with the intro of people I haven't a clue about is good. Now let me go back and read your comments to see if any of you drop a spoiler on me...

This was a pretty good, and unexpected, resolution to the Galactus storyline with the Silver Surfer battling his now ex-boss. Though I agree that the whole conflict did end waaaay too early in the issue. If not for the timing of the Inhumans battle, this would've been a 2-parter instead of three.

Also, Sue calls out Reed for mistreating her on P16! You go, girl!

4 stars for the early ending, but amazingly enough, the run of fabulous stories in FF keeps going, post-Galactus.

On a side-note, the Thing referred to Yancy Street recently in a Silver Surfer comic. It was odd, though, because he mentioned it in a good light. He was congratulating the Surfer for saving the world and that he's a Yancy Streeter now, or something like that. It was in Silver Surfer #4.

  • That's my line "Quit talkin' so blasted nice! Can'tcha see I'm tryin' to dislike ya?" (Thing)

  • That's my line too "I've learned that the best thing to do is read Jameson's editorials and then believe exactly the opposite!" (No-nonsense citizen) Nice touch!

  • Again, great panels of the Torch coming back from... wherever he was! And that giant panel of Galactus leaving is totally awesome!

  • What a lousy husband Reed makes! I know Sue can be very light-headed at times, but still, they're freakin' newlyweds!

  • The Thing's self-pity is starting to get old.

  • The writers are adding a whole new brochette of characters to Johnny's environment. I hope it works as well as it does with Peter Parker. That Wingfoot character is already quite intriguing! Never even heard of him!

  • Good conclusion to that arc. Galactus was a bit too quick to convince, and he should have known Reed would have never actually use that device, but still, the story was very compelling. I also loved that Johnny is going back to college. Some character development is always a welcome relief after such dramatic action. And the artwork raises my score again to 5 stars.

Nice conclusion to the Galactus story although it does feel a little rushed.

I do like the introduction of the new characters and storylines in the second half of the issue. It's nice to see the individual members getting their own storylines. Wyatt Wingfoot is someone who I'm aware of but really know little about so I'm intrigued to learn more about. Ricardo Jones though, I've never heard of. He sounds like Rick Jones' Spanish cousin and looks like a thinner Kingpin so I'll be interested to see what happens with him.

I really liked this Galactus trilogy. While most of you guys didn't like it ending mid issue, I had no issues (heh) with it. I wish that Reed and Galactus could have conversed more with the galactic gun or whatever, but I still enjoyed how the issue ended with everyone trying to go back to their "normal" lives, while it set up the next arc. Fantastic Four is turning out to be one of my favorites in the Order, something I didn't think would happen. It's going to be really difficult to go back to reading the lesser series (Cap, Iron Man, Avengers, and Fury) in the meantime. Oh well, at least next is Spider-Man, and Spider-Man hasn't let me down yet. At least within his own series.
