I can't explain why myself, but I liked this, even if Goliath's subplot was somewhat improvised..

So, Tony Stark's jet bike has an infinite range, because it's speed recharges it. Stan, why didn't you tell us that you found a perpetual motion device back in the 60's? The worlds problems are solved! (Now, really Stan? What was your grade in Physics?)

Isn't Power man supposed to be a copy of Wonder man? He is mighty weak in the few issues he appeared in lately. And if he's gonna be Atlas, he's got a lot of powering up to do.

Time to make my least favorite character Plantman again and give Hawkeye a break. His contrition is endearing.

Cap needs to get a grip on his group. The only ones with him at this point are Hawkeye and Wasp.

Talk about team drama...... Cap what the hell, Man...... the Brother/sister act are having issues....... Goliath is borderline acting like the Hulk, with how eradic his personality and decision amking has become cause of his 'out-of-control' power..... you are being strung along on a leash by his overly-dramaticly worried girlfriend...... and Hawkeye's trying to date a supervillian.......

My favorite Avengers issue so far, genuinely interested in all of the plots going on, including curiosity as to what's going on with the power twins. Great to see Stark finally getting around to creating a perpetual energy device. In the movies he does it in a cave the first time out. Now if only he can modify it to work with his suit in the comics so we no longer have to deal with him looking for a power outlet lest he die.

Nice to see Hawkeye get a chance to shine, not to mention the first glimpses of Hank Pym's darker side...

If this had just been the Black Widow storyline I would have rated it so much higher, but that everything that took place in South America was just painful to read.

After that long run of Iron Man, it was nice to read something different. I like the Avengers because of all the different super powered heroes on the team and the different personalities.

Many different plot lines happening at once, love it! And please please please let this mean what I think it means re: the Black Widow!!!

4 stars.

The mere fact that Wasp isn't in the character heads on the cover says how useful she is.

3 stars for the Black Widow and Her Amazing Friends!!!

Cover Me - @MattzLadd: At least she made it on the main part of the cover!

No More Mutants - The Wonder Twins losing their powers came out of left field!

Turbulence - The new Jet Sled is cool and all, but wouldn't the Jet Cruiser been better? New York to the Andes is quite a trip you know!

Grasshopper - Finally, the showdown between the arrow and the blade!!!

H Rider Haggard - I had to look him up, and it makes sense since he wrote the Allan Quartermain Series!

Keeper Of The Lame - I wouldn't trust him with a lighter; much less the Flame of Life!!!

'Nuff Said - "I want to, Natasha! Oh, how I want to...!"-Horny Hawkeye

Cap's Avengers are a complete clusterfuck. His leadership skills are lacking. This is the first glimpse I'm getting of how messed up Pym is. I know this gets important to the whole MU but I dont know the story so this is interesting

  GroovyGolem Says:

Interesting issue, in terms of the number of sudden sub-plots going on, but its execution wasn't the greatest.

I had to look up H. Rider Haggard, and I'll admit I'm ashamed I had no idea he's the guy who wrote the "King Solomon's Mines" series, and basically defined the "Lost World" genre so heavily borrowed by every author since (most notably in Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan" books, which I grew up reading!) So, thanks for the reference, Stan.

Weird that Tony would make an over-sized jet cycle that just happened to fit a 10-foot-tall rider. I also like how Hank reads about his old mentor, Dr. ANT-on (heh) being in South America, and jumps on the jet cycle and says "all I have to do is keep flying south!" and lands literally at the guy's front door. Did Tony invent GPS too?!?

And finally, Stan painted himself into such a corner with Hawkeye, it's taken multiple issues for him to redeem himself. Okay, we get it, we get it! Let's move on.

I was actually pretty impressed that during the Hawkeye fight, many actions were not spoken out loud. I've gotten so used to just reading the speech bubbles that I had to go back and look at the panel to see "when did he throw his bow at her?" or "when did he drop his arrows?".

  Russ Says:
  2016-09-18 17:58:21
Hank did the right thing. The commercials always said to see a doctor after four hours.....oh wait, wrong kind of growth.

Hawkeye's fight sequence was cool, although Cap should've had a backup plan to bail him out just in case, because the Widow, Swordsman and Power Man together were giving the entire team fits, let alone one guy with an admittedly high skill set but no powers.

And Hawkeye? Don't buy the brainwashing line. It's a trap!

I gotta say, for the first time I feel like Stan's doing an amazing job of juggling so many storylines in a single issue while still keeping me engaged for all of them. It helps that we're finally starting to see some honest growth (for better or worse) out of a lot of these characters.

With that much drama, it could almost be teen drama rather than team drama...

  Allencthulhu Says:

I suspect that the Jet Bike isn't perpetual motion but since its stuck on a planet that is only 24,901 miles in circumference, that there isn't a spot on it where entropy would finally catch up to it.
