Cleaver where Stan makes avengers fight both groups to stop the cobalt fire.

Haha I died laughing at the ending.

I liked it that Goliath found few problems to walk through underground tunnels and passages and loved your line jfpj1991.

A thinking flame? Using rays telepathically to protect itself? Are you fucking kidding me?

So that's where it came from...Stan became very enamored of the term "Keeper of the Flame". It kept popping up on letters pages and Bullpen Bulletins. And it came from such a weak story.

the Avengers is so hit or miss at this point.......

So the prince of a south American tribe just happens to be blonde-haired and blue-eyed?

In this issue I learned that explosions put out fire...

The only thing missing in that last panel was a dialog bubble from Goliath saying "D'oh!"

This was pretty dry and kind of boring.
I liked what the doctor said at the end...neat.
Where the heck is Black Widow..?!?

I felt like this was a long, drawn out filler. I guess Doc Doom or Kang were on vacation. 2 stars.

  MattzLadd Says:

Boring filler, though at least Pym can actually do something not useless for once.

Just 2 stars for the Keeper vs. Prince Rey...yawn...

Splash - The Wasp lost her "W" on her head piece!

Round Mound Of Sound - Hawkeye mentions Al Hirt, and I recommend listening to his music to get through this issue!

'Nuff Said - "A cobalt toy that must be taken from you!"-Goliath

Not good, and Stan's understanding of radioactive bombs is worse than mos of his science. That being said, the last panels were nice.

The Scarlet Witch/ Quciksilver failing powers plot is stupid.

2 stars.

Ugh. The only thing that was good about this was the twist with the prince being just as power hungry as the Keeper.

And it looks like Wanda dyed her hair. Is that so readers can tell her apart from Janet??

Story was a yawner, but a few milestones warrant two stars: Hawkeye's attitude is FINALLY bearable and b) Wasp FINALLY seemed useful!

Depending on the kind of explosion, that's actually true, as they can remove the oxygen from the vicinity of the fire (I saw it on TV so it must be true!)

I liked the ironic last line, but, based on the amount of times they mention it, this issue ought to have been called "The Awesome Power of Cobalt". Well, either that or "Check the Pecs: Goliath on Steroids".

  Shioxus Says:

At this point I'm skipping Daredevil, most of Hulk, and quite a few X-Men issues. While Iron Man, Thor, Sub-Mariner, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four remain my favorites. S.H.I.E.L.D, Captain America, and Dr Strange are tolerable but not great. Then we have the Avengers, which seems to be almost always bad but they are so iconic it feels wrong to skip them... and occasionally they have a good issue in there.

One of the nice things about Avengers has been the growth of Hawkeye as a character. I liked his self-realization that if he's going to wisecrack that he should expect to take some heat himself.

  • That's my line – "Okay! All of you... reach for a cloud! And I mean now!" (Hawkeye) – I bet that overexcited South American police officer just could not wait to get home and tell his wife: "Lolita, guess what, you will néber beliebe me! Today I came face to face with the mighty Abényers!"

  • Of all the reasons why their powers would wane, the first that came Wanda's mind was that they were away too long from their home village. I don't know, but if I were a mutant, this would definitely not be my first conclusion. I would probably seek advice with Professor X. Or if the perspective of a mind wipe terrorizes me, I would ask Reed Richards if there may be a scientific explanation out there.

  • These guys don’t look like descendants from the Incas one bit. And given their chosen reclusion, we can rule out any ancestry that would involve blond Caucasian genes. So what with the Prince?

  • How ironic that Dr. Anton would refer Goliath to himself!

  • These stories are so, so much better now that the Avengers have stopped fighting each other all the time. And the Wasp's contribution was more than welcome. The ending with the cobalt flame threatening the planet was a bit over the top, but I did not mind that much because of the fun factor. 4 stars.
