Issue Review

Daredevil's early years are much maligned by the general comic book reading audience. The common explanation is that his villains were decidedly sub-par, and that perhaps if he had a better rogue's gallery, his book might have been more bearable. It is undoubtedly true that he had terrible villains (The Owl, Stilt Man, the Matador ... you get the picture), but I'd say the title's mediocrity goes deeper than that: Matt Murdock and his supporting cast are decidedly dull. Matt graduated top of his class and has a successful law practice. His only real problem is his contrived masquerade as a helpless blind man, which situation garners him no sympathy from his audience since we all know he's actually more capable than any sighted man. Marvel unsuccessfully tried to fix this problem with Mike Murdock, and years later they finally got Daredevil to be a great character by giving him loads of angst and tragedy.

All D.D. did was knock out a bunch of underworld crooks.

Last issue DD wondered if his fight banter was corny... Well, that self-criticism was sorely missed in this issue.

Some mastermind-"I thought Nelson was kind of flabby, but I was so sure he was Daredevil." Nice picture of Gladiator and Marauder when they decide to cut and run.

this is idiotic. how does the man who made foggy his fake DD suit the previous issue (and who foggy told he was impersonating DD for a girl) believe that foggy is Daredevil?

@leisch - funny I thought the same thing of the picture of the two of them....... they sucked as bad guys but that shot was pretty good.......

The Gladiator loses his wrist-helicopters since someone must have realized those couldn't possibly stick around for long; now he's just a hulking brute (with excellent cosplay tailoring skills!) who got so confused about who was beating him up last issue that he really believes his last custom-fit client was Daredevil, pudgier than ever imagined, paying him to make another fake Daredevil suit for a date which perhaps was a trap to lure the Gladiator out? If that makes no sense, welcome to the mind of either the Gladiator or Stan Lee.
Karen likes Foggy MORE after finding out he'd been lying about being Daredevil, instead of screaming "What is WRONG with you, we both could have been killed, that is SO creepy, Foggy!!"
Daredevil asks Foggy to open a window and let him in, then somehow breaks a window before leaving, then breaks ANOTHER window when he returns to rescue Foggy in an extensive and fun fight scene. Some villain should patent those "another glass pane slides into place" devices that villain lairs always seem to have."

Seriously. I just did four Daredevils in one day. This site should give you a badge just for that. I'm giving this an extra star just for being the last one.

Man, I was really enjoying this issue until that moronic ending with Karen forgiving Foggy. Screw this comic. I hate you, Daredevil.

Ahhh… finally done with this Daredevil Quadrilogy. Having read this, and all previous issues of DD, it’s easy to see why DD didn’t overly excite the comic readers of the time. Matt’s a successfully lawyer, whose blindness alone really creates no storyline opportunities. Matt is not only blind, he’s BLAND. Foggy is a selfish bumbling oaf, whose law career( by his own admission) is being carried by Matt. Karen exists only to pine for Matt and to be the object of each of their affections, when she’s not being captured. None of DD’s rogues gallery are that interesting or pose a really threat to DD. Not once have I thought “I wonder how DD is going to subdue this villain”.

Decent story and conclusion to Foggy's shenanigans. 3 stars for entertaining me. Would have gained an extra star if Foggy got seriously hurt. Don't judge, it's just a comic book.

Just 2 stars for a lackluster ending to the inmates running the asylum!

Free Press - I do like the gangsters posing as photographers to break the Gladiator out of the police station.

Scoop - On page 8, panel 5 is that Harris Hobbs? I bet he brought dynamite!!!

Purple Gang - Sad to see them go. I wonder if the Masked Marauder gave them a 2 week severance pay, and letters of recommendation to other villains needing henchmen???

Smack Down - Great scene of the Gladiator turning on the Masked Marauder!!!

'Nuff Said - "Why didn't you pretend to be Soupy Sales, instead?"-Daredevil

Pg13/P2: Peter Pan vs. the Hulk is something that is not outside the realm of possibility now that Disney owns Msrvel!

That's one crossover I'd like to see!

It would be the same as a wasp (a real one, not Janet) fighting a gorilla... or even an elephant (but the hulk is more agile then an elephant)

Foggy knows Matt for how long now ? And he does not recognize his voice when DD speaks to him? I just ask because DD's voice is not muffled because his mouth is the only part of his face that is not covered by his mask...
Must have been the sheer fear...

  kungfufan Says:

P8P2 - Didn't Foggy let DD in? So why's the window smashed? Since nobody's attacked Foggy at his apartment before, the only answer is that DD recklessly jumped through the closed window on the way out... seems a tad excessive on his behalf, he must be really p***ed with Foggy!
P9P6 - You'd think the "cream of the underworld" would know by now not to team up with costumed villains!
PP10-12 - I'm rooting for Gladiator!
P12P2 - Hands up class, what's cushioned steel?

Ah yes, I can see how a Brillo pad stuck to the top of his helmet would make an awesome weapon!
