Not bad, but 20 min. from Washington D.C. to Long Island on a cab? Google maps gave more than 4 hours...

US politics hasn't changed much since this was published. Always making decisions by the number of votes it will bring in.

Like i said last issue....... with Happy, your on his side with how the impersonation story played out..... with Foggy he was just a selfish ass.......

Happy makes the cover, but still as a stand-in to make readers who missed last issue think that Tony's the one getting the Deluxe Orientalist Bondage Treatment from the Mandarin.
Tony makes it to the outer reaches of Queens in 15 minutes and China in an hour. A low-orbit Stark rocket is supposed to explain the latter, but the former must have been Space Cabbie moonlighting? Along the way, Tony makes a mental note to patent biometric fingerprint locks. Yeah, Tony, I hope you remembered that one... Those things are EVERYWHERE now, I mean they're on laptops and phones and...

Great use of Happy, and I'm glad Iron Man's back in action.

WOW...the art layouts are great. Marvel is coming around nicely.
Stark created that suit pretty darn fast.
I'm glad Mandarin is using his rings more.
I see Senator Byrd is back to his old self.
I'm actually looking forward to the showdown next issue.

Something donned on me while reading this. Mandarin is a moron. Happy was next to Iron Man not only before the battle with Sub-Mariner when Stark wouldn't let Happy operate the test sub (Iron Man operated it), but Happy saved IM's life during the televised fight with Titanium Man the first time they rowed. Bad planning by Stan overlooking this detail.

Other than that, good issue. 3 stars for the oversight, knocked it down a star.

3 stars for 1st appearance of the MARK II armor (or, that's what I call it)!!!

Cover Me - @metasynthie: Nice catch!

TAXI - @metasynthie: Hmmm....maybe it was the same cabbie that took Happy & Pepper from NYC to DC in record time back in TOS 82!!!

This Is A Recording - I think it would of been better if Stark prank called the Senator instead!

Ring-A-Ding-Ding - First, Happy can't believe the punishment he is taking from Mandy's rings after he teleports in. But, later, when he is chained, he's surprised by a beam shooting out from one of Mandy's rings!!!

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington - Hmmm....in TOS 69 their was a Miss Smith working for the Senator as well...

'Nuff Said - "From this moment on, Iron Man is more invincible than ever before!"-The New and Improved Iron Man

This issue seems to have no sense of time whatsoever! Tony gets from D.C. to Long Island in 20 minutes, he builds an entirely new suit of armor in what seems like hours, it only takes 3 minutes to tell Senator Byrd the secrets of his armor and armaments, he flies to China in under an hour... He'd give Quicksilver a run for his money (pun intended)!

Still... interesting that we essentially have a damsel-in-distress story, with Happy tied to the railroad tracks and Tony defying all odds to save him, and arriving in a very dramatic nick-of-time moment to end with a GREAT final panel! I've said it before... Colan's work on these Iron Man stories is beyond anything else we've seen in the Order at this stage.

I also love that Mandy gave Happy a whack with what looked like "the greatest karate chop ever known," which he was vowing to lay on Iron Man a number of issues ago. :-D

Pretty good Iron Man story, despite the obvious time issues. New armor looks good and it left me ready for the next issue.

We're doing the Time Warp again with Iron Man and the Mandarin. Madness takes its toll.....

So Tony designed new armor to rescue Happy from Mandy's clutches. With all the issues his old armor had been giving his heart, I'd say it was a task overdue by 20 some odd issues. Just an opinion.

Thank goodness for the splash page/montage! It really cuts time out of the Product Development cycle!

Four Stars for Stan's hilariously optimistic view of politicians!

  Calion Says:

  1. P. 3: Wait, I thought that Stark was penniless and banned from his facilities. Did all that go away just because he agreed to testify before Congress?
  2. P. 5: Tiresome narration is tiresome.
  3. Now, how in the world is Tony going to mask his identity now? Surely it will be obvious to the Mandarin whoís in that armor.
  4. Since I donít have many notes here, Iíll explain how I create these entries. Iím sure youíre all just dying to hear. I use Slide Over on my iPad Mini 2 to create the notes in Matcha 3 while Iím reading the comic in the Marvel Unlimited app. When Iím done, I Copy as HTML, paste the result in a different entry, then Copy as Plain Text; this turns the HTML-encoded quotes into regular ones, while leaving the rest of the HTML intact. Then I open PasteBot and Smarten Quotes (I also remove everything but the ďolĒ from the <ol>). Lastly, I use an online Remove Line Breaks tool so that there arenít spaces between the notes; I think that takes up too much room. Then I copy and paste the result into CMRO. Yes, thatís a lot of steps, and itís a big pain, but it gives me HTML-formatted lists and curly quotes, and makes things look nice. Hopefully I can streamline this process; Iím looking into Workflow.

Not much happened here, but the writing wasnít too terrible. ★★Ĺ

I gathered that the splash was several moments after he arrived, after the Mandarin had started attacking, giving him time to put it back on.

It's got to be at least Mark III, counting his original clunky suit.

But, that's just it, I don't count the original. Just my personal preference. That's why I put that comment in parenthesis.

Maybe the Mandarin missed those events. He can't possibly be in front of those monitors all the time, with the opposite time zones and all!

  • That's my line Ė "Now that you have recovered consciousness, my fallen foe... there are questions you must answer!" (Mandarin) Ė You're damn right, there are! How can Iron Man even hope to build a whole new armor in time to get to Asia and save his friend. Why can't he give Happy a crash course with the comm link he used in last issue? How come Stark industries are not longer locked up by the State? How can Stark record all the secret details of his armaments within minutes? How can his weak heart sustain the pressure of the acceleration required to get to Asia in less than one hour? How come no one has ever considered the possibility that there might be more than one Iron Man? Questions, questions, questions!

  • Simple but very nice cover!

  • Who would have known back then that the fingerprint recognition technology would become so popular a few decades later?

  • How can you become 'more' invincible? You're either invincible or you're not. There are no in-betweens.

  • Again, I admire Senator Byrd's integrity. He is not acting out of selfish ambitions, he truly believes it is for the good of the nation. Also, is it only me who hear Beau Bridges's voice when I read him?

  • Unfortunately, when situations are really desperate, Stan's writing gets sloppy and makes absolutely no sense. There were too many incongruities in this story for me. The great artwork balances it to a 3-star average.
