Issue Review

While it's another example of the tired old heroes-under-attack "story" that gets overused, this one has a couple of worthwhile ingredients.

Having the attacker be the FF's robot is interesting.

And the real villain's backstory is okay, too.

7/10

Wow, they really tried pushing Dazzler on everybody within her first couple of months, didn't they?

I think this issue highlighted everything that is annoying about the F4.

-Yeah, this issue is pret-tay, pret-tay lame. Mantlo riffing off of an idea by Wolfman--that's a recipe for weak sauce.
-Too bad Al Gore hadn't invented the internet by 1980...Dr. Sun would've had a much easier time.

Should I give it an extra star because they finally got rid of the robot? Nah.....

I was not expecting Dr. Sun to show up at this point, so that was... surprising, at least

Extra star for Dazzler and the final appearance of "Doctor Sun".

This was a mess, and horribly anti-climactic. They may have had something with Dr Sun invading the computers, but they just suddenly ended it. Dr Sun said the computers could defend themselves, then...they didn't. Be better.

From Marvel Comics: The Untold Story (pages 222-223):

As soon as the Fantastic Four cartoon went off the air, Bill Mantlo and John Byrne gleefully used the comic book to explode the NBC-sanctioned character of HERBIE the Robot, much as Gerry Conway and Ross Andru had once demolished the Spider-Mobile. As a triumph of creative purity over bottom-line concerns, though, it was a pyrrhic victory. Elsewhere in that very same issue, Johnny Storm sauntered into the Studio Infinity discotheque and ran into a special guest star: the Dazzler.

[Marvel created Dazzler in partnership with Casablanca Records, Kiss's label. The idea was that Casablanca would have someone portray the Dazzler on a record and in a movie, but Casablanca eventually pulled out of the deal.]
