Issue Review

Battle: As the heroes near their destination they face and attack from... unusual foes. Nice visuals here. And, for the third issue in a row, the Hulk steals everyone’s thunder. Boom!
Goal Achieved: The middle section is devoted to a new heroic character (with an annoying speech pattern) and the realisation of the plan that the Defenders had from the start (put the various parts of their prisoner back together). As stories go, this is a fine example of a team setting out to do something and, a few issues later, accomplishing it. It is telling that...
In The End: the teams leaves. Fast. They did what they set out to do, and they are not ready to take on the actual big bad. Makes that unnamed evil seem even more ominous.

9/10

I wonder if that Xhoohx character is the inspiration for Yoda, or at least his speech mannerisms. Oh, and terrible all round for this one. The only thing worse than having to trudge through a bad comic is having to deal with a bad one loaded with text.

  -Nice trinoculars
-The villain is not to be named? Are they fighting Voldemort?

This run of Defenders is absolutely brutal.

I almost gave the book 2 stars, but that last page brought it down to 1.

Two things I would really like to see in this book
1) Nighthawk dies or I would settle for him leaving the group.
2) some good adversaries..

Filming for Empire Strikes Back went from March 5 to mid-September of 1979. The comic was released in May. I think they filmed the Hoth stuff first (since they needed winter weather for it), and from what I can tell, the majority of the movie was filmed on sound stages in England for four months (so, Dagobah filmed happened between May-Sep 1979).

I just checked Leigh Brackett's draft (2/17/1978) of the ESB script and her Yoda character (Minch) doesn't speak Yodese, so it changed at some point. It's very possible that Frank Oz or George Lucas (I can't find out who was responsible for coming up with Yoda's speech patterns) saw this comic (especially because Marvel was publishing Star Wars at they time) and gave Yoda his signature speech pattern.

Aw well. A draft version of the script dated 1978 has Yodese in it: https://www.starwars-union.de/diefilme/episode4/30jahrekds/THE%20EMPIRE%20STRIKES%20BACK%20-%20Fourth%20Draft%20-%20Shooting%20Script%20-%20Oktober%201978.pdf

Alternative theory: somebody at Marvel got an advance copy of the shooting script.
