Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   July 25, 2017
This is a great comic book. Especially when read in the context of a time when Donald Trump is a controversial American President.

Except for a brief (and cool!) action sequence at the start, this is story-driven. Cap is asked to run for American President. And, amid the media frenzy that follows, he thinks long and hard about it.

We get to see how seriously Steve takes not only the job of President but how seriously he takes the American Dream as well.

Ultimately, we see how seriously he takes himself. He's very much a self-aware man. One with healthy self-respect.

The speech he gives at the end is the best thing in the book. It's great.

We also see how seriously the creative team take Cap. And politics. And the power of comic book storytelling. This is a truly great comic book.

10/10

  So, in the end....Nothing happened?

At least it's better than Howard the Duck for President, I'll give it that. That, an it wasn't a double-sized "soul searching" issue.

This just felt like a pretty pointless 'filler'.

What with the crack in there about movie stars running for office, I gotta wonder how much of this plot was prompted or influenced by the fact that Ronald Reagan was making his bid for the presidency right when this came out...

I wish this had of been stretched out for a few months. Not the main plot after this issue, but visit the progress for a couple issues before he gave his speech.

This was very much like this past election summed up in 1 comic book, and the candidate not declining the presidency.

Asking Captain America if he needs Secret Service protection was hilarious.
