Issue Review

The overall comic is average, although parts of it are quite bad.

Another attempt by Marvel to launch a successful female solo title. 1977 brought Ms. Marvel, 1978 brought Spider-Woman, 1980 brought She-Hulk and now 1981 brings Dazzler.

Most of the dialogue is terrible. The lead character is constantly talking out loud, constantly narrating everything in her life. In the most blunt, basic terms possible. She goes around telling the reader exactly what she is... (continued)

This was an average first issue. The back story was mildly interesting, but the present, not so much. How did Beast know she was packed when he arrived at the window? Also, The Enchantress? Yuck! "More talented that ME? How DARE you! You shall pay with your life!" Ugh. A stupid motivation for a stupid villain.

Looking at the ratings, I think some people are being to harsh on this. While it had some goofey aspects, you have to like Alison. Even though her backstory is cliche, they did it really great.

Out of any Mutants, Dazzler gets her own series! Give me a break, how about a Toad series instead!?

That was surprisingly very entertaining. Packed with guest appearances, true, but the main plot is pretty interesting in itself.

-Could've been really good, but wasn't. The thugs at the high school dance and the fact that the Enchantress is even in this thing were ridiculous.

The cover here is great! I like it when covers can be striking and different from the interior art while still capturing the right feeling for the character.

To much of the gueststar-syndrome. Only FF was missing of the major charchters

It would have been better if they had introduced the series with a proper, good story instead of spending so much time cramming in as many guest appearances as they could.

I would have liked to have been in the room when someone decided that of all the characters in the MU at this time Dazzler should get her own comic.

The story of "why Dazzler" is actually pretty interesting. She was meant to be kind of Hanna Montana, with a comic and a real life singer etc.

The Enchantress bit pulled this down a star from an otherwise fine but average first issue. Would have liked less reliance on unnecessary cameos.

Loves the warrior fighting to worship the Entrantress, but then it went back to a signing contest.

Dazzler got her own book because her entire character was designed to be big. I won't go into all the details, but she was supposed to be a huge deal, with movie included. It never happened, but they went ahead and did thr comic. It is definitely interesting.

It was good and all, but there's one glaring omission... how did Beast know she needed a job, where she lived, etc?

  1) I love nightcrawlers messy mop hairdo on the cover. 2) I love the ensemble cast because it feels like a precursor to things like Contest of Champions which is right around the corner.
