I was just expecting the worst of a continued story of the Living Laser, well, it turned out pretty ok thought.

Roy Thomas, you have much to answer for.

It's plain that, first Stan and now Roy, have no idea how to make Hank Pym work as a character. That has to be the main reason for the constant shifting of his powers. His abilities change every few issues.

How'd cap get his shield back? Thought it was disintegrated last issue.

and we have Goliath's powers changing again...... granted it was them being fixed, but can they just work how they are supposed to for more then five issues......... oh wait, that's right, nobaody knows how they work.......

What a cop out on the "Big change in Goliath". Oh wow, he can change sizes again, after not being able to for a little while. I was honestly thinking maybe he'd accidentally kill the laser from being so worked up, but no that would actually give us a chance to explore these characters and what makes them tick.

This is one of the worst written stories in the order so far.

Ant Man's back! I'm giving it three stars just for that, even though the story itself was pretty awful.

Living Laser shoots Pym. Wasp is upset thinking he is dead. Laser says nope! Hes still alive I only just stunned him, but it won't be for long. Soon I shall kill him!

Erm...just kill him?

Weird story. Very weird story. Can anyone confirm it deny that Stan Lee ever took a dew hits of acid, by a few, I mean like addicted to the stuff. 3 stars for creativity. A for effort. I think. Maybe...

Ahhh... the infamous "Cap's shield gets disintegrated, but magically reappears a few pages later" story.

Lame plots on Don Heck's sketchy, uninspired art is making reading these Avengers issues a real slog...

Just 2 stars for the Living Laser taking his laser light show on the road. Take that Pink Floyd!!!

Shield Slinger - @Durang55: Yeah, it addresses it in a later letters page, but I'm not buying it! :)

Crazy In Love - Jeez, Hank shows his true colors when he said he should of let Cap & Hawkeye burn!!!

Banana Republic - Finally, a decent name for a country. Costa Verde means Green Coast as if you didn't know.

New Model - So far, Hawkeye has a Sonar Screech, Siren, and now a Banshee Arrow!

Calvary - Those Freedom Fighters showed up a little late to the party!!

'Nuff Said - "Honest, baby...a vacation spot it wasn't!"-Hawkeye

Does Avengers ever start to be good? I'm tired of reading stories where they rescue the "wonderful" Wasp.

It would have been cool if the Living Laser's mammoth cannon was actually a cannon that shot out mammoths.

+ Another Goliath issue. It's nice to see him working hard for the win.
+ Hawkeye did some decent work in this issue too.
+ Caramba!

+ Don Heck does some nice panel play in this issue. Yes, he's a sketchy artist, but we've seen the most imaginative panel layouts from him and only him so far.
+ Hawkeye and Black Widow are cute.
+ Roy Thomas enters the scene, and I hope to see more character development through him, as we have begun to see in the X-Men.

- The shield thing was bad.

2 stars. This story was an improvement from the last one, and honestly you gotta hand it to Roy Thomas for wrapping up a story he didn't start with some success.

Anyone know the real reason behind keeping the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver out of the pages of the Avengers (but still in the upper left corner of the cover)? Is the answer a spoiler to some intricate subplot or is it down to something happening off the page in the Marvel Bullpen?

At first I read the Laser's voice as an ordinary Joe in my head, the moment he puts on that costume he's goddamn Skeletor.

  JonahBlack Says:

I think the shield thing is a consequence of the Marvel Method, along with Stan and Roy's compulsive need to explain the art. Don Heck didn't intend the shield to be disintegrated (though I'm not sure what he did intend), and I guess Roy didn't notice that it came back? You'd think the editor would catch that... ::shrug::

There's a lot to hate about this issue (from unnecessary stun lasers, to a lot of filler in the first attacK), but I kinda liked it. Hawkeye's still brash but less of a jerk, and Living Laser was a decent villain. I even gave it an extra star for ending the "whoa is me I'm 10 feet tall" arc.

Can I just take a moment to mention that I really hate Goliath's outfit. Wasp's has been nice from the get go, one of the best along with the iconic Cap, Spidey, Thor, and the FF at this point. But good God does Goliath look awful.

I love how the laser jail turned from red lasers to yellow lasers at the start. Plus the shield thing as people mentioned. Seeing Goliath go back to normal size so quick was disappointing as well.
