The Silver Surfer...Cosmic Gullability. Seriously, Doom might have well of said:

Doom:"I desire complete power to rule the world!!"
Surfer: "What?"
Doom: "Err...Um...Kittens. I desire to save kittens."
Surfer: "Ohh, ok. Kittens are cool I guess."

Doom possesing the power cosmic, i wonder how they will get out of this.

I liked this one. This is one of the few times, first since the Galactus saga, that I'm actually asking myself "how are the Fantastic Four going to get out of this one?". Doctor Doom with godly powers is nothing to scoff at.

I really don't like how overpowered the Silver Surfer is. Do they ever scale back his powers?

With this issue, Doom becomes a force to reckon with. Finally, his plan goes beyond "Beat the Fantastic Four". Even after he eventually losses the cosmic power, he'll remain a badass.

Reed tells Sue to help stop Sandman from escaping, but the Wizard grabs her and that prevents Sue from using her force field!

So much going on in this issue.... and none of it bad....... I actually like Johnny running around away from the FF...... we don't have to listen to him and Thing bickering........ every story kinda has me wondering what's gonna happen next......

A great setup story, let's hope the payoff is just as good. Also hopefully Lockjaw will stop quantum leaping all over the place so the Inhumans can finally get out.

Page 15 is a Kirby classic. The Surfer vanquished, Doom standing over him, surging with power, energy crackling all around him.

Fantastic buildup to the next issue. Hopefully the next issue takes the momentum and uses it. ROFL, Travis... Kittens.

4 stars for a great story and funny comment.

How adorable does the Surfer look when he's looking at that image of the galaxy with a huge smile on his face?

I felt like there were great things happening in this issue, but there was just too much going on all at once. It would have been better to put the Wizard and Sandman in a separate story.

Something about the art in this one.... Kirby/Sinnott took it up a bunch of notches. The opening splash and fight scene, the splash of a triumphant Doom... Great stuff.

4 stars for DOOM being a man of the people!!!

Splash - I agree about the opening page of the Sandman looking impressive!

Farm League - Sigh, this is the issue where the Frightful Four are sent back to the minors...I can understand the Trapster staying in his cell.

Convenient - Naturally, the Advanced Equipment Storage Unit with Impregno-Lock would have a window...

Black Sheep - You would think by now that Medusa would cause Maximus to have an "accident"!

'Nuff Said - "Actually, I am the gentlest, the most unambitious of monarchs!"-DOOM

Good comic. Was quite surprised when I reached the end of it and:
1) it was ended. Did NOT feel as long as it was imo.
2) Doom and FF hadn't even shared a scene yet.

Very good cliff hanger for this one, brimming with potential. Suspecting Doom will lose though from "having lots of power but no experience/knowledge how to use it well." Inexperience with new-found ultimate power seems like a bit of a crutch for Stan lately.

  Russ Says:

Great setup to one of the FF's more iconic story arcs next to the first Galactus. The Fantastic Foursome continues to be a solid book, even if the past few issues were a slight letdown (though still light years better than about half of what Marvel was publishing at the time).

A few other notes:

- There's no 'Nuffer-said than @Locust75's chosen 'Nuff Said. But the next time you come across a sweet, gentle, unambitious and benevolent servant-monarch who calls himself Doom, you'd still better run in the opposite direction.

- The giddy look on the Surfer's face on the bottom of page 13 is so goofy it's almost Pennywise-the-Clown scary.

- I'm still not sure how Reed, Sue and Ben got home from the events of Annual #4.

- Concerning Black Bolt, I'm sure it took every single iota of super-strength, super-discipline, and super-willpower Stan had in order to create a mute superhero!

4 solid, cosmic-powered stars (which kinda sounds redundant, but you all know what I mean!)

I prefer my DOOM! unapologetically embracing his desires

DOOM! Wearing a crazy machine for sucking cosmic power

DOOM! Flying on a surfboard ready to conquer the world

Alt-''Nuff Said: "Whoever whumped these guys is an expert whumper from way back!" Sweet Aunt Petunia's Favorite Blue-eyed Nephew

Five stars

Four! Four storylines running at the same time! And I thought General Hospital was difficult to follow. I actually had some trouble getting through the whole Doom claiming to love kittens part. We have Wizard/Sandman trouble, Johnny, Wyatt and Lockjaw trouble, Inhumans learning that Black Bolt doesn't need a big stick, AND Doctor Freaking Doom on a flying surfboard crackling with energy. Wow!
