FF and Spider-Man are the best series thus far, strong stories almost everytime

Well, this issue certainly delivers in terms of showing a ridiculously powerful Doctor Doom. Of course, he's still breaking every evil overlord book in the book, but hey, I suppose we can't expect him to actually wipe them off the face of the Earth.

Kirby lost a great chance to portrait Doom riding the Surfer's surfboard on a very 'badass' way, I would want a poster of that in my room!

Silver Surfer's putdown of Doom shows that Surfer is still a force to be reconed with, even de-powered. Torch puts up another great battle, following closely on his battle with the original Torch. Too bad his solo stories were never this great.

So Torch sucked in Strange Tales, but is great when he's running around on his own with a non-superhero Indian sidekick and an oversize bulldog that teleports them around...... never would have thought........

I love Doom with the Power Cosmic........

Johnny has been such a jerk lately, all for a girl he's been around a total of like 3 hours.

5 stars for the defeat of the Fantastic Four at the hands of Victor Von Doom!!!! Great epoch so far!

I'm really digging super-powered Doom. The guy's such a pompousa**that I can't wait to see what he does next issue.

Reed didn't want to UPSET Sue? Is she not a fairly powerful superhero, also?
Damn, I thought we'd finally escaped the ubiquitous misogyny.

Pages 18-19 definitely show a weakness of the Marvel plotting method. From the explosion in panel one of page 18 to Johnny's reappearance on page 19 it seems like Jack and Stan lost each other a bit. Still a damn good issue.

4 stars for DOOM playing with his food!!!

Ride The Lightning - Great images of DOOM in the lightning!

Spine Tingling - I know it's goofy, but I luv Ben scaring himself silly!

In The Mood - Yeah, Sue just wanted a weinie roast...wink, wink...

Power Up - Whoa! That's a huge jump between a nova blast and a SUPER nova blast!!!

'Nuff Said - "You insufferable--unspeakable--blot on the escutcheon of humanity--"-DOOM

The only knock on this series is the Johnny/Crystal storyline. It's awful and annoying at this point. He's beyond obsessed.

I had to look up escutcheon.

So Johnny can wipe out 1/4 of the population just by going supernova? When did he practice THAT trick?

Some great art in this one, especially all of page 7 when Ben crashes into the electric billboard. Good battles all around too, with action as big as Doom's ego!

So far, this is turning out to be my favorite Dr. Doom vs. FF battle.

DOOM!'s warm greeting of the Thing, hilarious. You can just hear The Victor Monologues as he's flying a surfboard over the Atlantic Ocean to go and kick the FF's a**es

The cover looks like the FF just caught some heat from DOOM! In a dance battle

Reed quite willing to write off DOOM! flavoured freak electrical events as casual phenomenon of nature until it happens again

You would think Doom would learn to finish them off whenever he got the chance but I guess not. Fight has been great so far though.

  • That's my line "Somehow, it's hard to worry too much about a friend when he happens to be one of the world's strongest men!" "Waddaya mean one of?" (Mr. Fantastic and the Thing)

  • It's a shame that Reed always has to be overprotective of Sue. I know it's supposed to be love, but I hate his assumption that she's weak or can't handle the truth. Anyone noticed how she got back to being useless in this issue?

  • What an inappropriate time for Reed to leave town for a week-end vacation! It feels a bit out of character.

  • I like that Dr. Doom recalls when the Thing almost pulverized his hands without Stan referring to that specific issue.

  • Finally, Stan has realized that Johnny using a super-nova burst would be lethal for Earth's population.

  • I can appreciate that Doom would spare their lives, as world conquest without Reed witnessing his success would never be as meaningful. He's completely satisfied just by making it a point.

  • I see that Johnny's obsession is starting to get old for most of you, but I think that his quest with Wyatt serves the storyline pretty well. The separate sub-plot helps with the pacing and the dynamic of the main plot.

  • Great continuation on a already great start. This is the first time that Doctor Doom represents a genuine threat without the ridiculous devices and schemes he was previously known for. After Reed had tricked Doom into believing that he had defeated them a while ago, this must feel like they are even now. I can't wait to see what Silver Surfer is going to do about it. Kirby's battles scenes were amazing. I have no idea how they are going to get out of this one and I love it! If not for the story showing Sue as a helpless female again, I would have given 5 stars.
