Is it just me, or was that Captain America just utterly pointless? Also, whoever thought it was a good idea to write Batroc like than needs to be taken out and shot.

  Canuck Says:

Though I agree Xythe, I actually like Batroc, however, the reason eludes me.

So last ish cap was drowning in the last panel and they don't even think to explain how he made it out?

Hey Cap, if you can survive a fall from hundreds of feet into the ocean, I doubt one kick would have finished you.

Nom du chien Batroc eez tres pauvre lol

Surprisingly, I found myself really enjoying Batroc this time. Maybe because he is a villain with a code of honor.

Didn't we just have an above average acrobat as the villain 2 issues ago?

oh my god, the dialogue from Batroc is atrocious....... please, we know he's french, but that is some of the worst cliche french dialogue ever.......

When last we left the star spangled Avenger he was half dead floating in the harbor after being thrown 300 feet by a robot that just kicked his ass. But lets pretend that didn't happen and never mention it again.

Nice to see they resolved the Super Adaptoid storyline they were in the middle of before moving onto this story...

Am I missing something here..? Wasn't Cap just floating near death in the river..?
The team up was neat, and I liked the action panels with no dialogue...nice touch.
Story was dumb and lacked some continuity with the whole river thing, but I liked how Batroc talks, so it was somewhat entertaining.

Wait, WHAT? I mean...where the hell did this pop out of? What about the Super Adaptoid? I just...good lord!

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:

Yup... What happened here. Don't get me wrong, I like Batroc as a villain, but this came out of nowhere. It's like you're watching your favorite sports team and they're about to score and a streaker runs out on the field. 3 stars because it was enjoyable.

  Safis Says:
  2014-09-05 13:20:39
Hahaha! I know this was super corny but I loved it! It's clearly just a gag filler issue but it was quick and fun to read out loud. I can imagine if I didn't know french it probably would have come off as obnoxious, but I had a good laugh over it. I mean, can you really take a guy who goes by the title "The Leaper" seriously anyway?

  MattzLadd Says:
  2014-10-02 12:34:26
Batroc is much more likeable with his dialect than the Schnelling Germans in the flashbacks.

3 stars for the return of Batroc!!! I still love the Gallic Gasbag, and remember he's more than just a acrobat. He is zee master of La Savate a type of French kickboxing!

'Nuff Said - "So you're behind this, you mustached madman!"-Cap

Stan broke the CMRO. Somehow there must be no way to tell what happened between these two issues. Also, Batroc's dialogue is unreadable.

I don't know why but I really like Batroc and his corny accent. It made this issue feel a little lighter I felt like cap was getting a little depressing alway talking about how terrible his past is.

Highlights from Tales of Suspense 84.5 (long-banned by the Comics Code Authority):

Splash page, Cap emerges from the water: "It's just like that fateful day in WWII! Can't succumb! Bucky! BUCKY!!!"

Page 2, cab driver: "If you're Captain America, pal, I'm Joltin' Joe DiMaggio! You look more like a drowned rat to me!"

Page 3, cab driver: "Here we are, Cap! Avengers Mansion! Give my regards to the Wasp! Hubba hubba!"

Page 4, Jarvis: "You look a right shade of exhausted, Sir. Shall I draw you a bath?" "Stow it, Soldier! We didn't win WWII by letting foreigners wash our junk for us!"

Page 6, Cap, robed and rested, staring off into space: "Is this how it's meant to be? Living in another man's quarters, in another man's robe and slippers, while Bucky is just a memory? And speaking of memories... whatever happened to that blond girl from the Issue 75?"

Page 7, Batroc: "Sacre Bleu! Zee Captain, he weel play right into our hands! Once zee Leapair, he has teamed up wiz zee Hydra, zere can be no stopping us! Zee girl, she shall be but a pawn in zee game!"

Page 9, Jarvis: "Sir, a message arrived... it says 'Eef you ever want to see zat blond girl alive, come to zee Recovering Pines Convalescent Home, eef you know what eez good for you!' "

Page 10, Cap: "Here we are, Recovering Pines! All that's left for a man of action to do is kick in the door and save the girl! FOR BUCKY!!"

No wonder it was banned, with such a long gap between your page four and page six highlights, I'd hate to think what was on page 5... definitely if it was another no dialogue - all sounds effects page!

I really enjoyed this. It was light, and silly, but somehow different and refreshing. I especially like the page where Stan shuts up for a bit.

  Calion Says:

  1. Pn. 2-1 shows how easily Cap can be killed, and how he should be dead many times over by now. One single sniper could take him out. And since he specifically fights military enemies more often than not, there’s no reason why many of them wouldn’t have tried that. This reasoning applies to many heroes, but to Cap more than most. I should compile a list of Marvel heroes who might not just be dead in a realer world. That list would contain Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and precious few others.
  2. Pn. 7-1: “Name of a name!!” Is that some French expression I’m not familiar with?
  3. P. 10: Is it somehow required that Cap and Batroc always team up after fighting?
  4. “I can never truly hate him…for he brought us together again!”—Lovesick Agent 13. Yeesh. Really? If there’s one woman we’ve met so far who I’d figure would not fall for the hero on first sight, it’s her. Sigh.

I’ve been following Hydra to find out what happens to them, but apparently they just exist again, for no particular reason, after being destroyed by Fury. Also, as usual, the art here is pretty bad. The depiction of Cap on pn. 7-4—ugh. ★★˝

They were never really defeated. Their backup, THEM threw out some subterfuge with the Secret Empire and AIM. Then Fury figured it all out. THEM is (are?) HYDRA.
