Wow, Gil Kane was just phoning it in on that issue. That was awful.

The art on this one was horrible!

Cap needs villains of his own beyond Red Skull and Batroc. There's a huge gap for decent villains in there.

Cap is become one of the lower parts of the order right now.......

Man they're just running Powerman and Swordsman into the ground. They were individually nearly able to bet the Avengers and now they are bumbling stooges.

Building up, but the Swordsman and Power Man were unnecessary. 3 stars for red, white and blue effort.

The Swordsman and Power Man were formidable foes for the Avengers, but of course they are largely scaled down to pettiness as Cap beats them alone.

Cap needs a supporting cast and a life. Cap is not one of Marvel's better books right now. A chore to read through.

2 stars for Cap following the bouncing yellow ball...

  Dialog of note:

"Everything below is crackling with ENERGY! You can feel the HUM... And the THROB of raw, harnessed FORCE all around us!"

"Now we're entering some kind of oversized TUBE... We're dropping DOWN... To the BOTTOM level!"

"RELAX, my mighty-muscled friend!"

Apparently it's raining men in the Red Skull's dance club. Just sayin'...

This outing for Cap is a bit disappointing, but at least not on the "suck level" of Daredevil or X-Men. As @phogbear said, Cap's supporting cast and personal life sorely need to be developed, but that likely won't happen until Cap gets his own book so the series gets more pages to stretch out a story. I believe that happens one year publication date from this issue.

So the Avengers can take a whole comic sometimes to defeat this duo, but give a fighting mad Cap room to do battle on his own, and he can take them down in just a handful of moves. I've always disliked this aspect of recycling villains across team and solo hero mags.

Power Man and The Swordsman have been a bit overkill as a whole. The 8 page issues of cap and iron man just feel like they're not enough to make them super worth it.
