Hate to admit it, but I liked the cliffhanger and reveal at the end of the Fury story.

Here's the first interactive comment in CMRO history:
1. Wow. Marvellous!. I didn't see that commin (if You read Sgt. Fury)
2. Who? (if You didn't)

  TStarnes Says:

I am going to talk 1 and a half. I didn't read Sgt. Fury, but was aware of who the guy was (he is really only a surprise if you haven't read any Marvel previously. He is pretty well known.) I was surprised by the reveal.

  fragsel Says:
  2012-02-22 07:19:38
Well, to be totally honest I also knew who's who. Sometimes I just feel like pretending I'm a teenager in 1967. Supreme's Hydra identity must have been a blast then.

  TStarnes Says:
  2012-02-22 07:44:57
True. When taken in its time, it was a really good reveal. I am betting most people did not see that coming.

  Calthor Says:
  2012-06-30 02:15:43
I had not read enough Marvel previously: it came as a surprise to me, and a good one too. And the double-pager artwork was lovely too.

In addition, Dr. Strange is weird and psychedelic as ever, although I am not impressed by Zom's looks.

  Mr. M. Says:

At this point, Strange Tales is one of the best series in Marvel. I really enjoy Fury's fight against Hydra and Steranko's art, while Strange gest more intense and surreal. Still, Zom look awfull.

  Webslinger Says:

I just wonder, was Spidey and Thor drinking a coffe when supreme Hydra came on broadcast? I didn't like very much this Strange..

For me this Shield marks a tidal change for the better and Strange's art is starting to improve.

Back in 1967, that last panel of Shield was met with a loud "COOOOL!"

Umar finally commits the one unpardonable act when tvs go out around the world. Truly this is a menace even Stan Lee could not have enough superlatives for.

even my little knowledge of Marvel outside X-Men made the reveal not very surprising.......even though I didn't knowthis actual event......

great Shield story. Makes me a little sad that old Nick has been officially retired by Marvel and replaced by his son, Samuel L. Jackson. Interesting introduction of Zom. If I recall, Dr. Strange used Zom to face Hulk in the world war Hulk storyline.

What's up with the drawing of spiderman in this issue, it looks like he bulked up with a ton of steroids.

I've been reading Sgt Fury with the Order, and I was blown away by who Supreme Hydra was. Great issue all around, I have it 4 stars for the reveal.

Very good Shield story. That reveal at the end was great.

Maybe it's because I haven't been reading the SHIELD comics, but this story was way to hard to get into and almost nothing happened. I didn't read the Dr. Strange sorry.

  MattzLadd Says:

If I am not mistaken, this is the first true appearance of a double page spread. +1 star for that alone.

2 stars for big revel of Baron Von Strucker!!!

Dyna-Soar - Ugh, still to soon since Braino-Saur!!!

Roll Call - I guess Quicksilver was on the pot...

Spread 'Em - @MattzLadd: It's been done two times before. One was FF Annual #1 when Namor is in Atlantis, and the other one was a regular issue that unfortunately I can't remember...

'Nuff Said - "How say you, men of Hydra...guilty or innocent?"-Baron Von Strucker

I was sure that your quote from this SHIELD story was going to be Fury's line: "If I didn't see it with my own eye..."

What was Thor doing with Daredevil and Spidey? Why was the Hulk with Goliath and the Wasp?

Wonder how Strange is gonna deal with Zom
4 Stars

Loved the Fury story. The art, the reveal, the double-page. All good stuff.

  GroovyGolem Says:

And here I was complaining last issue that Steranko needed to let the art breathe a little bit, and in this issue we get a half-page island reveal, a full-page interior reveal, and a DOUBLE-page cliffhanger reveal!

Clearly, Steranko must have listened to me.

I did like how they pointed to some of the clues about "Bronson" being the Supreme Hydra. I went back and looked to make sure, and yep, they were there alright. But Strucker? That was an awesome reveal.

Plus we get a new "action" suit for Fury, Gabe gets brown skin, AND Fury gets his shirt off!

4 stars!

  Russ Says:

After stories like this one, it's hard to believe we're still a year away (original publication time) from SHIELD's own full-length series.

  kungfufan Says:
  2017-04-13 22:45:05
Where to start? So, first off, I see a continuation with awesome artwork, then we come to the point Stan makes me go back and check two specific panels. If the team had this all plotted out all along, muchos kudos. Then, Fury slips out of the ship in his signature SHIELD suit for the first time! Good bye topless Nick? As he inches forward I begin to suspect... as I turn the page to see four panels with no dialogue... IT IS! It's the turnpoint issue Liev Schreiber highlighted in that TV special! No wonder I've been enjoying this arc so much! Definitely four stars, nothing less. ... But wait, there's more! A double page spread of the Hydra Supreme reveal... AND IT'S BARON VON MOTHERCRUSHING STRUCKER! I did not see that coming!! I held suspicions it was the original Imperial Hydra having not actually died. But being a Sgt. Fury fan (they were solid 3-5 star pieces, until I stopped reading when Marvel Unlimited became, well, limited), the reveal was the best twist ever!!! Finishes on 5 stars.
Sorry for the long comment, I think I'm still on a buzz from that awesome ending...
* * *
P.S. I wrote this note about a month ago on my phone. I'm less excited about it all now, and can see I was a bit OTT on my comment, but thought I'd still post it unedited to show my excitement moments after finishing that issue.

I clicked on the "Don Antonio Caballero (Supreme Hydra)" appearance back in issue 150, so I got spoiled on the Strucker reveal, but what a two page splash page! Is that the first one in the order? I can't recall the Marvel Unlimited App ever giving me a two page splash...

  mrtc2003 @ JonahBlack (original post):
  2017-10-01 05:25:50
Someone further up the comments did mention it but there are two other 2-page spreads before this one. One was from one of the Fantastic Four Annuals (although I can't remember it myself). The other one was from an issue of Thor where he travels to Ego, the living planet. I can't remember the exact issue number though.

Personally I think the two page spread in this issue is the most visually interesting. I did know beforehand who the Supreme Hydra would be but I imagine it would have been a surprise at the time and it was well handled.

Oh wow, that was a pretty cool reveal. I never read the fury comics before this so it's not super impactful but it's still cool to see a throwback that.
