After growing weary of Mordo continued failure to overcome Strange despite his superior power, Dormammu brings an end to their battle, transporting all of them to a neutral dimension where he will do battle with Strange himself. However, the nature of the battle will be one of skill and not power, giving Dr. Strange a glimpse of hope.

Dr. Strange coming through with the legendary earth power of.... Judo! Awesome.

  Another fantastic mystic battle.
The denizens of the other dimensions are all pretty cool.

This storyline could easily have been half as long and twice as enjoyable.

As is, it's endlessly plodding along.

Meh.

OH SNAP.....Mordo shouldn't have did that. I know he was only trying to help, but now Dormammu is going to be pissed at him.

3 stars for the pugilistic pincers of power!!!

Spirits - The container that Dormammu put his sleeping potion in was creepy!

South Park - Lords of the Netherworld.......Timmy!!!

Final - The last panel with Dormammu standing over Strange is very powerful!

'Nuff Said - "Stand aside, bungler!"-Dormammu

I choose you, Pincer! Gotta love the 60s Pokemon reference. Wait... That wasn't a Pokemon reference? Whoops

By the whorry hands of Hoggoth... I wish the all knowing eyes of Ashanti would bestow the whorry hands of Hoggoth on me while I'm sleeping.... So long as Hoggoth is a hot chick who knows stage Kama Sutra.

3 stars for the predictable defeat of Strange.

Well, all seems bleak for our Strange hero. Even the mighty science of Judo could not foil Dormammu and Mordo!

  CosmicCostello Says:

Good old Stephen Strange. He sure knows how to fight! Lucky for him his much more powerful enemy decided to fight him in a realm where he has no advantage at all. Crazy!

But, this is all building to an exciting conclusion and Ditko and Lee are keeping me entertained.

  1. Dormammu looks great and he is really slapping the heck out of Mordo
2. The pincers are lame but somehow the fight was decent anyways
3. Still one of the low points of this arc

The idea of this battle is silly, but I like how different is the two "evil". Mordo is a shameless rat. But Dormammu is a real enemy! Nice. But because of the battle it's 2 star.

  GroovyGolem Says:

If nothing else, this issue showcases what a bad-ass Dr. Strange is. Outmatched and outgunned, and yet he faces his foe with courage and guile.

I love how Mordo is held in such contempt by Dormammu now. They're like the Magneto and Toad of the mystic dimension.

Also, did anyone hear the Kirk vs Spock fight music from Star Trek while watching Strange and Dormy duke it out?

Am I the only one who WASN'T happy to see Judo being used against a stronger foe for the nth time in the order?

  kungfufan @ GroovyGolem (original post):

Once again, somehow you've preemptively read my mind... Totally Magneto and Toad!
As for Kirk vs. Spock, I felt it was more Kirk vs. Klingon, especially with those pincers of power!

  Russ Says:
  2016-09-01 12:12:31
I know it was judo, but did anyone else read this battle and have "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting" playing in their heads?

I'm thinking, without reading the next story yet, that the one commenter above is correct in that Dormammu doesn't accept Strange's defeat because of the shot to the back from Mordo. Dormammu was using Mordo to strike at Strange at the beginning of this arc, using the old "I'm striking at him but really someone else is doing it not me" loophole shyster lawyers would argue in a courtroom. I think such a type would take the victory anyway. Why go to all that trouble then get pissed if someone cheated in your favor? Mordo is a skunk, but I don't blame him for thinking he'd be favored again.

3 stars. Still an epic story arc.

  • That's my line "Dormammu has forced me to watch the human's downfall! I cannot turn away!" (Girl from the Dark Dimension) Well, little lady, just close your goddam eyes!!

  • Dormammu uses a potion diffuser with facial expression. So CUUUUTTE!

  • The Mindless Ones always make me think of Cyclops on a cloning experiment that went really, really bad!

  • I like how the Ancient One is clinging to his blanky on the splash page!

  • That's a lot of evil leaders Dormammu has summoned. I wonder if we're ever going to see any of them again?

  • What a lowlife scumbag, this Mordo! No class, but no surprise either!

  • Interesting fight between Strange and Dormammu, although I'm surprised the bad guy would bother to make the battle more fair by not using power. Overconfidence and pride will be his mistake, I guess! Nevertheless, I liked this one so 3 stars.
