The Captain America story is good - but also doesn't lead to the real resolution. I THINK That one goes into Captain America 100. Really, Zemo should have been the lead on the cover. THAT would have sold books - not this James Bond laser thing pointed at Tony.

  Great cliffhanger.

Agreed; I know they'll solve it probably in a stupid way, but a great cliffhanger nonetheless.

  And I agree, great cliffhanger.
Cap says that Zemo has grown colder. I don't remember him being all that warm and fuzzy before.

  Good ending.

Other than the stupidity of an orbiting solar laser, that was a satisfying story.
Black panther with his real eyes showing is weirdly disturbing.

Agent 13 is badass. They're actually letting a woman hold her own for the first time (that I can remember).

OMFG why did Zemo get them out of the hole? 1 star for starting off on that stupidity.

Great story. Is this the real Zemo? I thought I read his son took over for him at some point.

...aside from SHIELD, The Avengers, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Daredevil, Iron Man, Dr. Strange...

Why does nobody else find Zemo's outfit totally ridiculous? It's like a pink bathrobe lined with fur. And he wears a lampshade on his head.

3 stars for no appearances by the Syndicate!!!

Top Secret - @duncanm: The Nazis actually had plans for a "Sun Gun" using giant mirrors in space! Check out www.damninteresting.com for the full story.

Hindsight - You know, if I had a Death Ray. I think I would test it somewhere other than above my base!!!

  Locust75..hilarious. "Don't Ask Don't Tell Soldier...too funny.
That is a pretty decent ending. And the story is picking up a little.

Uh oh! Looks like it's curtains for Cap!

Pretty fun story given it's vintage.

For people with a death ray, they have an awful lot of non-lethal weapons.

I'm assuming the only reason Zemo didn't mow them down in the tiger pit was so he could use them to test "Irma Kruhl's" loyalty at the end. Let's just go with that 'cos otherwise that was a totally dumb move.

Not too crazy about the inking in this one, but it had a couple of nice panels, like Panther knocking that guy's helmet off of Page 4, Cap getting hypnotic-blasted on Page 5, and Panther getting karate chopped on Page 8.

And check out the Panther face-palming that dude to the floor on Page 10... It's Kirby's signature move!

Hmmmm, an orbiting heat ray powered by the sun. You ralize this guy just solved our energy crisis. "While we're at it, let me show you how my solar powered tanning booth works...."

I liked the artwork and the action sequences here. However, add a star for that cliffhanger. I admit I didn't see that one coming....

Cap's run in Tales of Suspense ends here. What did we learn?

Cap's stories stuck to the Golden Age aesthetic more than any of the series we've seen up to this point; concentrating solely on the action and the conflict as opposed to trying to develop character. Sure, there were minor attempts at character development, but I think Stan was so high at the idea of bringing him back he couldn't resist having him show off at what he could do. And the whole "man out of time" deal was pretty cool at the time for Marvel.

  Russ Says:
  2016-10-18 05:46:13
The handling of Agent 13, the only character introduced in this series for the purpose of character development, has been handled poorly. We're seeing in the most recent arc that she's capable of handling herself, but the whole romantic trope Stan's fond of is coming too strongly into play here. And we still don't know her name!!

Finally, I've noticed that Timely's "Big Three" (Cap, Sub-Mariner, and the Torch, with Johnny Storm sitting in for Jim Hammond) have had the weakest solo series in the Marvel Age up to this point. That's a shame. Given a decent supporting cast and stronger stories, these are characters that can adapt well to the Marvel style.

Final grade: D+. Cap is still an action hero and good artwork kept the series from being a complete drag. Hopefully having a full book will allow his character to develop and breathe. His background and storyline up to this point gives him the potential to be one of Marvel's most compelling heroes.

It was a little weak-sauce for Cap and Panther to get their butt's whupped three times in two (half) issues, but Agent 13 saves the issue, and the day.

"The Man Who Lived Twice!" Hmmm. Where are the Ninjas? We have the space thingie, we have the foreign culture, we have the super-secret bad guys, but no ninjas. WHERE ARE MY FREAKIN' NINJAS! I want ninjas with freaking laser beams on their...(wait wait wrong movie).

If you're wondering what this was all about, look up what the 1967 Bond film was.
