-Well, there ya go...For the most part this WAS an entertaining arc/series. It was a bit hamstrung by a few mischaracterizations (mentioned earlier by other readers) and repetitive "battles" and concepts, not to mention the fact that it probably should've only been 7 or 8 issues long.

So that was the famous Secret Wars story huh? Yikes, I had to struggle my way through it.

What I loved about it: 1) Getting to see Spidey get the black suit. 2) Wolverine chopping off Absorbing Man's arm. 3) Lizard making unlikely friends with Wasp and Klaw, then scratching Enchantress's face.

What I hated about it: 1) The A.D.D. writing. Too many characters, too much going on, way way way too long. 2) Any story with Molecule Man as a central character loses points automatically, and this was gave him an annoying gf. 3) The Colossus love story was terrible.

Also, why bring a suburb of Denver into it? How random is that? Oy, oh well back to Spidey and his new suit.

It got better as it went along, but never better than mildly amusing.

This had a fair amount of novel turns that make me want to excuse some of its faults, and I enjoyed how surreal things had to get to wrap it up. I mean, Doom destroys and inadvertantly reconstitutes Captain America three times in a row! And Captain America is still like "Hey there, buddy! Don't disintegrate me again, I'm here to help, let me help you!" because Cap. But there was a LOT that grated along the way. Especially the useless Szaji love-triangle subplot, and the bad writing of heroes. Quite a few villains, however, took a step up to the next level of character interest -- even Molecule Man, and that's difficult to do (I mean, he went up a rung from ridiculously flat to slightly interesting).

I wish they explained more about why and where Lockheed went. Other than that, and the bad characterizations of the characters involved, this was a solid story. Easily could have been a 5 star arc had Shooter not taken liberties and given new voices to already established characters.

I was hoping that in the end we would find out this was all a fantasy Franklin Richards was acting out. It felt like a story a 7 year old would make up. Or like the Saturday morning cartoon version of Marvel.

Was it realistic for "Unca Benjy" to stay on Battleworld knowing that Sue is having a baby soon? We have seen that kids mean a lot to Ben and I just don't believe he would miss seeing the new baby. I wonder if they ever address the fallout of Ben missing this.

In short, a totally average arc, with horrible characters, a grand yet stupid plot, fun at times, annoying like hell almost in every single issue, and in general a poorly executed arc that could have been so much better.

I agree with most of the comments above but have a further gripe. I think an event of this magnitude should have had greater consequences than just introducing a few characters and giving Ben a vacation. Someone should have died and it probably should have been more than just one person. Like, oh, I don't know, Jan and Reed.

Wow, what an odd ending. No wonder I only seem to remember the beginning of the series when I think about it. The only thing I usually remember about the last few issues is Doom steals Beyonder's powers and Klaw sliced like a ham.
