From the letters pages of this issue "We're glad you feel that way Louis-'cause so do we! And we also don't think there's much possibility of the Professor's return...Even a 90% vote can't change what must be." Kind of hilarious considering how many times Xavier's died and come back now.

Everything in the main story is contrived, in the worst sense. And in the second one, mind-wiping left and right, mind-wiping for everyone!!

  Robareid Says:

Some dark tones in the second story, especially for the time.

The Juggernaut returns but this time he's used for filler! (how dare they!?) He wasn't that much of a threat and having him disappear like that comes off type of odd and lame, I didn't know how to feel really! But I do have to give a point for the artwork here which made the action scenes stand out

How did Jean get him with a mental bolt when his helmet stops mental attacks?

The machine Xavier build did not make any sense. How did it get Juggernaut back? Does it work with magic or something? And how did it send him back after it was destroyed?
Also why leave it turned on when you know you are going to die? Thanks for making sure the menace of Juggernaut returns after you have died Xavier!

Wow, what a boring issue. I think it's interesting that they are splitting up, but they didn't even really fight Juggernaut and then he vanished.

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:

This is just getting horrible. The series is cancelled soon, right? Then the good stuff happens, right?

It gets good right before it's cancelled, actually.

Eh, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The Juggernaut's always a hoot. That second story was pretty dark, considering its the 60s. The brainwashing though? Not cool.

2 stars for wasting a perfectly good Juggernaut!!!

Cover Me - Awesome cover! Now if only the inside lived up to it!

No Prize - Gary Friedrich is going to fit right in with Marvel. He's already calling Fred Duncan...Amos...

My Card - Foggy Nelson, Attorney to the Stars!!

BOO - Juggy scared Cyclops so bad that it turned his trunks white!!! (p6,p2)

Shake It Off - It looks like Jean doesn't mind Scott vibrating into her!! (p8,p6)

Gutter - Heh, heh...Juggy shooting white globs at the X-Men...

'Nuff Said - "It's a pleasure to do business with straight-thinking youngsters like you!"-Foggy

Sure, the X-men have had almost no success fighting mutants one on one, but let's split them up to be more effective. Ugh. I hate bad reasoning.

I'm loving Roth's pencils on the first splash page.
Wait...what the heck kind of power is Juggy using with the energy globules? I didn't know he could do that.
And doesn't his helmet prevent mental attacks..?
Interesting ending.

Cover was good, but the plot had too many holes and inconsistencies.

  Katryn Says:

The X-Men are all still school age. So what exactly are their parents thinking to be leaving them in a boarding school with no teachers for weeks? But then I guess Warren's parents didn't notice a sudden increase in the number of feathers around the house, so they're probably not very smart.

  GroovyGolem Says:
  2016-08-20 07:14:52
Amos or Fred Duncan? Or is it Amos "Fred" Duncan?

Regardless, Juggy slammed that guy's head directly up into the ceiling. That would break a normal man's neck, causing instant paralysis... Possibly even death. I don't see how he'd walk away from that just a few panels later. Is there more to Duncan than meets the eye?

At this stage, there seems to be no logic to any of these issues. It's as if Roy Thomas dug them into such a deep whole, and left Gary Friedrich to get them out of it. He has his work cut out for him.

  Russ Says:

Tough to read, for the reasons outlined in the other comments. It also didn't make editorial sense to disband the X-Men after getting them such snazzy new costumes.

  skabeaters Says:
  2017-01-01 21:12:01
Who does this FBI Duncan think he is? What authority does he think he has that he can order them to disband? I would have told him to take a hike and that if he wanted to return he'd better do so with a warrant and an arsenal. This is, of course, coming from someone who would undoubtedly be in the Mutant Brotherhood.
Side note: I didn't know that Iceman was the 2nd X-Man, I always thought of him as probably the last of the original five.
Oh and 5* for my favorite baddy, the Juggernaut!

Juggernaut is also one of my all time favorites...but this Issue with him only gets 2* because of the inconsistencies! Like gettin mental-bolted by Jean with his anti-mentalbolt-helmet-thingymajig on...
