Batroc's dodgy french accent annoys the hell outta me.

Batroc is right up there with the DD foes on the "Lame-O-Meter." His accent always makes me think of the Tom and Jerry cartoon where the little gray mouse keeps saying "Touché pussycat!"

hurried, but still it is kirby- skyscrapers are awesome(3+)

Hey, Kez, c'mon, I live in France most of the time & Batroc's accent is actually very well done. Batroc as a charcter is the embarassment for the French....lame, lame "super villain"

Is it bad that I kind of like Batroc?

  leisch Says:

Three lame villains don't add up to a decent issue. So far as regular enemies, Cap has Red Skull and Batroc. That's quite a disparity.

  buckyfan Says:
  2013-10-07 20:24:35
Whoa... Cap going Christian on us on the last page. Not a whole lot of that in these superhero comics usually.

  j52y Says:

I kinda liked this one. Just a straightforward battle between Cap and previously established villains (even if they're not the best).

I liked it, could have been at least a 2 part arc... Felt rushed.

  specialque Says:
  2014-11-29 19:36:04
Damn, did Cap go full Jesus on us on that last page? Or was he talking about Bucky?

Also, everytime I read a Batroc story I want to take up Parkour.

At least a villain team can put up with each other for once.

Just 2 stars for pretty much the same plot from the "Inferno 42" storyline in TOS #75-76!!

Cover Me - The Living Laser is colored like Power Man, and the top of his helmet looks like Power Man's!!!

Spread 'Em - Great double page splash of Cap & Bucky!!! You can tell that Kirby just really wants to draw Cap in WWII stories!

A Piece Of The Action - So, Cap wants some danger, huh? How about that dame in front of him in the purple & yellow with the leopard print hat???

En Garde - I guess the Swordsman is training to fight Doc Ock someday...

Rogues Gallery - I know it's either love or hate with Batroc, but I still think the Swordsman could've been a real threat for Cap if done right.

?Question? - They are not called Batroc's Brigade in this issue. Is this later retconned?

'Nuff Said - "Lie there, Avenger! The time has come for the final thrust...!"-Swordsman the Gay Blade

Every time Batroc comes up, I just hear him as He-Man - "I have the POWAIRE!"
Kind of hard to take anything seriously after that.

Sacre blue, talk about your feelair issues! Zut alors!

I'm giving this 2 stars, but it's more like 1.5. This whole issue just seems really dated, from the WWII opening to the cockamamie plot (which they already used the last time we saw Batroc I think). Throw in Cap's ridiculous dialog (which I normally like but they waaaaay overdid it this time) and you have something that just feels so out of place at this stage in the Order.

Kirby's style is also really starting to show its age, I hate to say it, but especially when you contrast it with what Colan, Buscema, and the Romita/Mooney team are doing at the same point in the Order, it just seems old and tired. But I say that with love... I mean, it's Kirby!

And then, just as we were making progress with Cap and giving him a reason to be happy and fit in with his new world (i.e. Sharon) he's ready to undo it all... Aaaaaand we're back to the way things used to be with mopey Steve walking around NYC. Ugh.

  Russ Says:

These 20-page action fests are starting to get a little stale here. They worked better while Cap was in Tales of Suspense, but they're starting to become tedious in his own mag. And any attempts at character development just repeat the same old things; he's either lamenting what happened to Bucky, or bemoaning not being able to get together with Sharon. Clearly, Cap is not handling the transition to a full book very well.

And pulling some second-tier Avengers foes into a pseudo-Masters of Evil didn't quite work here either. And Batroc is more an annoyance than an actual villain. When is he actually going to do something?

Besides....the name Batroc sounds like some cheesy "Man Called Flintstone" character.

1 star. The only thing even somewhat entertaining about this issue was @Locust75 pointing out Swordsman's latent homo-erotic tendencies. I can't believe the CCA let Stan get away with that one!

I enjoy Batroc, but the religious propaganda drops this
issue straight down to 1 star.

Sorry guys but what is the Jesus reference some of you mentioned at the end of the Issue, i am an atheist and don't know anything about it but I still want to know where the reference is hidden...

  Urgat Says:

the fights on its own where decentz enough to give this Issue 2* but the fall-off to the old, "I can't live a happy life with friends and loved ones"-Steve puts it undeniably down to 1*...come on Stan, it is called character development not character degeneration
