A decent enough issue with the predictable outcome, but those last four panels...just completely heart-breaking.

Poignant ending to this one. This run of FF has been pretty good.

Why did he bring the Wonder Gloves to Alicia? Romantic gift? sheesh

Well I'd say that cover kinda gives away the ending, no?
And introducing the Android-Man! Wanna bet he's indestructible?
I wonder if the want ad for the Baster Building's doorman specifically requested an Irish stereotype?
What possible reason could Ben have for bringing the Wizards gloves with him?!
Is Alicia deaf now too? I think the screams of the android summed up what he was after pretty succinctly.
Okay...so no it was quite destructible it seems.
Oh Ben, don't mope. You're always happier as the Thing anyways.

At least the Ben Grimm self pity drama might end now. Maybe. Overall great issue. Yes, the final panels are heartbreaking.

I'm surprised that they found a good, convincing reason for Ben to become the Thing again. This issue was a lot better than I was expecting, especially with Ben and Alicia on a date talking to each other like strangers.

I would totally buy a Baxter Building Staff spinoff - starring Sergius O'Hoolihan and Willie Lumpkin.

3 stars for the Thing going through changes!!!

Cover Me - Great image of the Thing comin' at cha!

Blue Steel - Funny that Ben would have an 8x10 glossy headshot of the Thing. Since he had self image issues and all...

Pot Meet Kettle- Also funny that Johnny is jealous of Crystal flirting with Ben. Especially for what happens years later...

Splash - Awww...a very special issue of Our Love Story!!!

Foghorn - That one cop helping raid the Mad Thinker's lair...is he from the Harbor Patrol Division???

Broken Record - An android of the Mad Thinker running loose is a repeat of FF #70! Not more than 10 issues ago!!

No Prize - So the Mad Thinker created an android before he went to jail (10 issues ago) that picks up the Wizards Wonder Gloves that he just made last issue!!??

No Prize II - How could Ben use the Wonder Gloves when the Wizard took the control stud with him last issue making them useless??

'Nuff Said - "Our baby--may be born--a freak!"-Proud Papa Reed

I liked that character relationships were a large part of this issue.

Kirby really was The King - those last few panels are truly heart-breaking.

Wow Reed, with an attitude like that, no wonder the X-Men have a hard time of it. But no, don't tell your wife, that sounds like a plan. Doctors too - what, you told the husband so your job is done? No need to warn the woman that she could be having a lizard baby for all they know? Nah, that would ruin things for her. Like thinking up names for the lizard baby.

I always love these FF issues that show them all just existing in society. I don't know why. Maybe I'm nostalgic for FF #1 or something. Although, does Johnny basically just torch all those innocent bystanders upon exiting the Baxter Building? Sheesh... Not cool, man.

It's too bad they gave away the ending on the cover. I suppose if it was a picture of Ben facing off against the android, the general public wouldn't recognize him and it wouldn't "sell." Story-wise, it would have been cooler to have Ben on the cover and then have a full-page splash of the Thing's reveal on the inside, instead of that little panel of his fist on Pg17/P1. Oh well.

Otherwise, the artwork in this one was great. Lots of really nice detail. I'm not quite sure what's going on with Johnny and Crystal on Pg4/P1. I guess they have a bad case of happy feet. O'Hoolihan, too. Such an odd scene.

@Locust75: Great 'nuff said quote! Reed's "freak" comment made me LOL. Reminded me of the old Iron-Man arc with Happy as the Freak!

  - Wow! This opening with Crys kissing Ben and the conversation after is very mature and real! I'm surprised!
- And like others said above, this concealment in front of sue is not nice.
- It's a little dissapointing, how easily Ben changed back to the Thing. Was it need just a little shock from a glove and nothing else?
- Anyway, for the opening scene it's gotting 4 star from me :)

Recommended listening for this issue: "Changes" by David Bowie. Heck, the outcome was spoiled by the cover anyway. Turn and face the strain!

Weird. I thought the Wizard's Power Gloves were depowered last issue when the Wizard flew off with his tail between his legs. And what kind of signal would he put in them to get the Thinker's Android's attention?

Other than that, this ended up being a pretty good resolution to last issue. Sure, like everyone else said, we all knew what was coming, but the ending sequence really hit home. Nice piece of writing and artwork there.

And Reed shouldn't be too upset about his unborn child's chances. If the baby's born a freak, Reed can always try out for the sitcom "Freaks and Geeks".

4 stars, mainly for that ending. This won't be the last time Reed will try to cure Ben. Like the old saying goes, if at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you. Something like that.....

I haven't had a chance to read much original Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four, so I'm really impressed right now. By both the art and the writing.

I think when Ben is so easily transformed back to Thing by a big shockwave of energy...by his luck...he would have turned back eventually without himself really wanting it. (imho)
