From what i can tell, Spider-Man only appears in a couple of panels at the beginning of this story. I'll probably skip it since i'm reading only Spidey's books at the moment. I'll save it for when i get around to reading Avengers.

Something is wrong with Janet, mentally, she has way too low self esteem.

After that standout performance by Crystal in FF, we get the Wasp and her new fainting spell power. Two steps forward, one step back.

Well this kind of came out of nowhere, but I loved it. I've always liked Pym, and this is just making him one of the most interesting characters in the marvel universe.

Wtf kind of cliffhanger did I just read?! Is the Yellowjacket really Hank Pym? If so, this is all sorts of messed up...

Imagine reading this when it first came out and not knowing who Yellowjacket really is. That makes this issue crazy creepy.

I can kinda see where this is going, and the other comments pretty much confirmed my suspicions. Still can't believe the quality streak this title has been on.

Those two pages with each character going into their personal problems is brilliant. I love how the different pasts tie in directly to the present stories.

3 stars for the 1st app of Yellowjacket!!! Yet, another alias for ol' levelheaded Hank Pym...

Style - The Yellowjacket costume is a hundred times better than any of the ol' Giant-Man/Goliath duds!!

Getaway - I think Rocky has a few rocks in his head. Yellowjacket scares him so bad that forgets that doesn't know how to drive...

Drop A Line - Always great when Spidey messes with JJJ, but the first panel with Spidey has his head looking like a pancake!!!

Pull My Finger - So, Black Widow rejoins SHIELD just to be gassed!!??

Big League Chew - Ahhh...the infamous chewing gum scene that is later immortalized in Avengers Forever!! (p9,p2)

Swinging Pad - I love the idea of the Hornet's Nest!!

Who's That Lady - Great shot of Jan on the last panel!!

'Nuff Said - "Why so hot on this underwear-boy, Mr. Jameson?"-Randy Reporter

I didn't care for this. It comes out of nowhere, with no setup at all. Then the issue is disjointed, ending with Janet just randomly announcing she was marrying Yellow jacket. 2 stars

Hank Pym is mad as balloons.

Trouble to come.

Is it just me or is Yellowjacket far more interesting than any other of Hank's aliases?

  GroovyGolem Says:

Why would Charlie and Big Eddie hire a driver who doesn't know how to drive? I assume he's the driver because he's getting out of the driver's side on Page 1. Or maybe he's just Big Eddie's seat warmer? "Warm that seat for Big Eddie, will ya, Cupcake? Yeah, that's right... warm it real good!" Yikes.

I've heard so much about Hank Pym's "issues" over the years that I can't wait to read through this arc. But, oh MAN is it creepy to read this with a modern sensibility when YellowJacket tells the captive Jan he should hit her, and then he kisses her... and she likes it! Yikes to the MAX! This is all so wrong... so wrong.

I loved the Spidey/JJJ cameos. I thought Roy did a good job there!

The punch to the jaw on Pg3/P4 looks painful!

And finally, did anyone notice the Vision says "not while the Vision LIVES!" on Pg14/P3? Can't tell if that was an accident of Roy's, a figure of speech, or if the Vision does consider himself a life form?

I'm honestly not sure just what this was I just read, to be honest. I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone back in 1968 when this first came out, just to gain a type of perspective of what this story was trying to do. If Yellowjacket wasn't Hank Pym, Jan seemed to be handing herself over to a potential abuser. If it WAS Hank Pym, this story was just completely off the rails.

Either way, it's hard to blame the rest of the Avengers for being PO'd at the interloper. And maybe Roy was trying to interject a little drama in the Hank/Jan romance by introducing another "suitor" for her, but it just didn't come off very well.

2 stars. After the fantastic Vision arc we just had, this story was a real letdown. But as others have hinted, Hank's Yellowjacket persona seems to produce the most interesting storylines for the character, so hopefully this will pay off in the end.

It's really hard not to view this as someone familiar with Hank Pym's backstory. I found the story interesting as a part of Marvel Lore, but I agree with everyone else's sentiments regarding the creepiness.

Loses a star for creepiness, loses a star for lousy Spider-Man art, however--You gotta like Yellowjacket's costume and, except for the creepiness, I like his attitude.
