Nice to see the Serpent Crown show up. I never realized it started with Namor.

Namor gets amnesia!? That never happens!

This was a very rushed issue. Disappointing because it held a ton of potential and could have been developed into the beginning of a great story arc. The amnesia part confused me at first because of how fast it came and went.

Wow, I'm surprised at how much I liked this issue. I especially liked that pissy reptile head on page 18. He looked annoyed as hell.

3 stars for the awaking of the Serpent Crown!!!

Credit Due - Dan Adkins inks complements Marie Severin's pencils very well!!

My Happy Place - Man, the Atlanteans are a bunch of pessimists! They have the Quagmire of Doom, the Diamonds of Doom, and now the Abyss of Doom!!!

Warpoon - Just doesn't sound right...

Splash - A 60's orgy of tuna delight!!!

Scent Of Blood - Cool scene of Tiger Shark challenging Namor!!!

Splash II - @specialque: I agree, a cool headshot of Naga indeed!!

Fishy - So, the Ancients were early Atlanteans??

'Nuff Said - "Must thrust my weapon...between its grotesquely gaping jaws!"-Low Standards Namor

"Half to the Sea of Turbulence, and half to the Sea of Tranquility"

...umm... can I be on the Tranquility half, please?

Cool issue though. The effect the crown was having on the Atlanteans felt very Lovecraftian.

Don't the Atlanteans worship Neptune? Which, given he's a Greco-Roman god, would be paganism. So how can they descend to paganism by worshipping Naga? I've got more questions about Atlantean religion now than Namor has had bouts of amnesia!

I don't think followers of any religion believes themselves to be pagans...

So half of the sea living ancients went to the Sea of Tranquility which is a completely dry plain on the moon...

The Serpent Crown: headwear for headcases!

So Atlantis was taken over from Namor again. You could always stick around and actually be a ruler, dude. But then again, that'd be boring, wouldn't it? However, it was pretty cool to see Dorma spearheading the attack on Namor in her Crown-induced mania. Who'da thought she had it in her?

Sigh. Amnesia again. At least it was only a few pages. The amnesia plot device was good for something, but I can never remember what.

2 stars. Seems like we're just revisiting old plot devices. However, I'd like to see what Naga can do; he might be someone to actually keep an eye on.

I actually really liked this one! While I missed Big John Buscema's art, Marie Severin and Dan Adkins did a great job. I always love the way Marie draws the female characters. Look at Dorma's expression of curiosity on Pg/P2 as she looks at the helmet.

The overall story was pretty good, even with the usual aquatic amnesia trope, and I liked the evolution (or is it devolution in this case?) of the helmet of power. And how long do you think Namor was gone, considering Dorma's hair grew about a foot in length!

This is the second time I've seen Namor say "by the swirling Sargasso!" I hate that. Wouldn't Atlanteans have their own name for the bodies of water? Same with him not recognizing the land masses on Page 18, but knowing the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Wouldn't that be Turbulence and Tranquility? Namor's been hanging out with the surface-dwellers too much!

But man, check out that crazy ol' Vashti on Page 12. I always knew the guy was a free-lovin' hedonistic hippy at heart. I'll bet he's not even under the influence of the helmet... he's just happy to finally get naked!

This book started out seeming to just be a re-tread of previous stories. I almost gave up on it, and Namor as a series, when he got amnesia. It was only the tease of the Serpent Crown that kept me going.

I'm glad I did, because this took a pretty good turn at that point.

I don't like Amnesia as a story-device and also the Atlantis-throne-usurping is getting kinda old...

...BUT...

It both worked well in this Story, felt not all too forced to me and drove the story forward. 3*
