Why is it that Dr. Doom gets diplomatic immunity while Namor gets shackled like King Kong?

Stingray is rendered very nicely by Marie Severin. He flows through the water just like his namesake in several panels.

What's with the dude waving hi to us on the first page?

Pretty good story. Yet another example as to why government sucks.

Fun fact - every one of the beachgoers on the splash page are actually the Marvel creators of the time.

Good story, and I've been looking forward to see Newell as Stingray.

3 stars for the 1st app of the Stingray! I always loved the sleek design of the costume!! Thankfully they eventually keep it red & white, and not red & yellow!!!

Cover Me - Great image of Stingray rising out of the water!!!

Splash - @MattzLadd: Nice catch! Marvel Comics Database lists the Bullpen appearing as:

John Verpoorten (big guy red shorts w/camera)
Marie Severin (behind John Verpoorten)
Roy Thomas (blond w/glasses to the right of Marie Severin)
Morrie Kuramoto (in front of Roy Thomas)
Gary Friedrich (guy in orange shirt and glasses)
Tony Mortellaro (guy in purple shirt running to crowd)?
Larry Lieber (bald guy in blue shirt)
Stu Schwartzberg (guy waving at us)
Sol Brodsky (balding guy in white shirt behind John V)
Mike Esposito (guy w/white towel to right of Stan Lee)
Don Heck (guy in green shirt to right John Romita)
Bill Everett (guy in purple shirt running to crowd)?
Herb Trimpe (guy in front of Stan in odd swimsuit and pose)
Stan Lee (guy to right of girl in shamrock swimsuit)
John Romita (chomping on cigar w/red towel around neck)
Flo Steinberg (girl in shamrock swimsuit)
Frank Giacoia (guy in yellow shirt to left of John Romita)

Anybody else want to give it a try...

Bazoonies - I really wish Namor would of drowned those damn dirty hippies!!!

Flutter - You'd think that Namor would be able to fly since he still has his little ankle wings...

Jake The Janitor - Minus 1 star for bringing water anywhere near Namor!!!

Shake It Off - Those poor pedestrians are so scared that not only did their hair turn white, but their clothes as well...(p18,p4) Plus, cool image of the bridge in the background!

'Nuff Said - "Did you expect me to hold hands with him?"-Benton

So last issue Triton leaves Namor on a beach like "you're good" then feels bad this issue and heads off to aid him. Meanwhile, Stingray is leaving Namor on a beach like "you're good."

I'm getting sick of the old something happened near the sea, Namor must have done it plot. Seriously, why were those cops arresting Namor?

  Russ Says:

I really hope that Namor's inability to exist in the water is the new status quo for awhile; there are quite a few story possibilities here. The government and authorities wanting him in custody for the times he's attacked humanity in various issues of Fantastic Four and Avengers, has him on the run and should put him at odds with them more often. This book has attained a whole new level of interest.

Dr. Newell as Sting-Ray seems to be a decent enough character. This incident is sure to complicate his working relationship with Namor; I'd like to see this changing dynamic going forward.

So the entire Marvel bullpen took a day off to go to the beach? They'd better not miss any deadlines! Doctor Strange #179 already had to utilize a reprint because of this!

3 stars. Given his new circumstance and that splash page, Namor really seems washed up!

While this storyline is fun and interesting, it is not very original. Take away the hero's powers. Let him still triumph.
