Issue Notes

Why Essential Notes

A note in Avengers #69 indicated that it precedes Iron Man #19, but that is not exactly correct. Some of this issue happens at the beginning of Avengers #69 while other parts happen near the end or just after that issue.

  "Battery-operated image producer", fantastic!

Iron Man has broken out some lame toys in his time, but they seem to have become more and more sparse. Still, at least he's almost completely over his crippling heart condition! That's one thing that has really annoyed me about Iron Man so far, so it should be all improvement from here.

Ohhhh, I have a sneaking suspicion that "My suit's power is low. Oh no, my heart", is going to be replaced with "But can I risk becoming Iron Man when my heart could give out with any stress".

A slightly disappointing end to an otherwise fantastic little arc. Midas' Jazzy of death was incredibly silly. Strapping lasers to mundane vehicles does not a villain make.

Interesting story, I like the twist with Madame masque's identity. Well done.

Definitely didn't see the identify of Masque coming, but as soon as they started making out all I could think was "But...Sitwell..."

Hold on, how can Captain America be in this issue?

  TheAmazingGatorMan Says:

Yup, not understanding how Cap can be here, or how Midas could have survived. His departure for now was poetic justice, though.

So he puts on an Iron Man suit he just happens to have in his suitcase, he fights just like Iron Man, and no one believes Stark can be the real Iron Man. OK.

Tony totally just stole Whitney from Jasper Sitwell.

3 stars for Whitney Frost trading up!!!

Cover Me - Interesting choices of villains for the cover. Iron Man never fought Lucifer, and who's the bald guy behind Death? Also, the Crimson Dynamo's helmet looks a little off...

Jose Chung's From Outer Space - Dr. Jose Santini??? Somebody better check his credentials!!

Sidelines - Nice appearance by Happy & Pepper!

Double Take - That magnetic powered craft looks more like a projector! (p9,p3)

Royal Throne - I really wish that was the end of Midas. If only he chocked on a chicken bone! Also, if he never leaves his hoverchair, then I wonder if the hoverchair has a toilet as well...hate to be the guard that has to clean that up!!!

WTF is he talking about "beauty on the inside?" she was a liar and a crime lord like i get it you need her to escape but damn tony you are a liar.

I liked much of this, but there's SO much text in the first half.

  Katryn Says:

Quick, someone tell Jasper not to look! How could you, Tony?

  Russ Says:
  2016-12-18 13:41:21
Not quite the ending I was anticipating, with Tony playing at Iron Man. Honestly, you'd think someone there would've put two and two together in spite of the heart problems!

Clearly, Tony was playing Ms. Frost in order to escape. Maybe she was so heartsick at the facial injuries she sustained that she actually believed him. I bet Jasper would understand if he finds out; he'd say something like he'd do the same thing in Tony's predicament! But Whitney will be aware of that little playboy tactic next time they meet, I'm sure.

So yeah, Midas wasn't as great a villain as he could've been. First off, if he wants to be the richest man in the world, he shouldn't be spending so much on gold tables and paraphernalia. Second, a cool chair with gadgets doth not a villain make! Just ask Cadavus of the Exiles.

@Locust75: Good call about Lucifer; he and Shell-Head won't face off until the very next issue.

4 stars. That was one heck of a recovery Tony made after major heart surgery, to go into battle; nevermind that it was against the Kingpin wannabe Midas.

You know Madame Masque, there is something called plastic surgery. Even back in the 30s they were working on cosmetic surgery for burn victims. Surely by the end of the 60s, they could do something for you.

Maybe, with some help from Tony your criminal past could be put to rest and you and Sitwell could have a nice long chat. Work things out. Keep love alive.

Whitney Frost had changed through the series, to the point where she didn't want to attack Stark Industries. She had fallen in love with Jasper and if anyone knows about hiding their injury and pain behind a mask, Tony does.

Three stars for a good story.
