The first steps of greatness in Iron Man - and really in Marvel, too. This was one of the first places in the Iron Man story and writing that really changed so much of what these comics were written and organized. Now, most certainly the character of Eddie was created for the express purpose of killing him - especially inside the armor and battling against another armored foe - this is the beginning of an all-time classic Iron Man arc. And pretty welcome, too. Most of these have been junky.

Now, does anyone really think that a guy who can't box anymore could really take the steps to becoming Iron Man? Probably not. But of course, the story couldn't completely surprise everyone and just kill the guy, right? Maybe if it had him just taking up the armor here, then telling the back story just before he was killed - or well... It could have been done better, but the story really has started to cross over - and laid out the ground work for transitioning over to the Bronze Age - and real consequences - even if it's softened - more than SOMEWHAT softened, too. Nice work here.

As much as Marvel has been using black heroes, putting a black man in the place of one of its heavyweights was a bold move at the time.

I think this is the most I've ever enjoyed an Iron Man story.

No idea how this is so highly rated, thought it was horrible personally.

So much going on, yet it was more character and story development than nonsense. I also like the bold move Marvel made with who they selected as the new Iron Man, even though it obviously won't last long.

To be fair to Stark, he had no idea that March had such severe head trauma. Maybe next time, he will get a physical for his replacement.

4 stars for the 1st app of Eddie March!! Take that Rhodey!!!

Fight Club - Nice tie in of Eddie's past with Happy Hogan!

Bulk Up - I like the idea of a new Crimson Dynamo, but this one is too big! He's getting up in the Titanium Man weight class!!

I Don't See Color - I like that both Stark & Happy think of Eddie as being "grey"...(p11,p6)

From Russia With Love - Hmmm....who could in the crate, and who is the mysterious informant!??

'Nuff Said - "Can't see an ol' leather-pusher like me in a technical place like yours, Mr. S!"-Eddie "S&M" March

Wait, did that doctor just diagnose a blood clot in the guy's brain with a stethoscope? Because that's not how stethoscopes work.

Actually, I thought this story was outstanding. The public had thought there was another guy in the suit anyway, so it was about time Marvel actually ran with the idea. Of course, they had to have been hedging their bets by putting in another guy on the verge of death in Eddie March. But Archie did an excellent job portraying him as a likeable guy with a never-say-die fighting spirit.

One flaw, though: if you have a blood clot in your brain, odds are you're not discussing it with a doctor, because you're already dead from it! That clot is preventing blood from reaching critical tissues, and it wouldn't matter if Eddie took another punch, or discussed last night's baseball scores with a friend.

3 stars, but should've been 4. It's possible that this arc was put forth to demonstrate that nobody but Tony Stark could wear the armor. But having another guy in the suit really isn't that far-fetched if you think about it. Marvel will explore this again in the future; bet on it.

Good point; hopefully next time he does. I can see Tony not getting one for Eddie since he assumed he was still in excellent shape from boxing. Obviously, workplace liability had a far different set of rules and laws 45 years ago.

Eddie March is a pretty awesome Iron Man. To bad about that blood clot. You would think that given all the technological innovations Stark creates every year, he might think: "Hey, let's do some medical research and maybe come up with a treatment for blood clots."
