Issue Review

RikerDonegal
   November 15, 2016

This starts out as one of those stories where a villain needs the help of the Hulk to carry out some nefarious scheme. Once that is established we are treated to a generic fight between the Hulk and an emissary of the villain.
Not a very promising start but then, at the halfway stage, the story takes a turn. Now itís about the unusual friendship between our hero and that same emissary he was fighting earlier.
The end of the story brings a twist and a very dark ending.
Itís the sort of story that could provoke endless discussion about what the Hulk did. Definitely not your conventional Ďheroí.
10/10

Painfully, I wrote a scathing review - and was planning on moving on - but I lost it. Darned typing!

The comic isn't even really worth a review - it's just so bad. Just remember - the X-Men was cancelled - and this garbage kept coming. Do we have so sense of a reader that this garbage could keep coming out. Mogol? A robot? And it's his only friend? This junk keeps coming, though. Ugh.

Hahaha, in the first panel he talks about wearing borrowed Levis, which are definitely coloured blue... 2 frames later they're purple.

Those crazy gamma rays.

This issue started out quite lame, but it actually turned out to be pretty good.

How silly, one minute Mogol is as strong as the Hulk and cannot be hurt, but once Hulk knows he's a robot he can easily tear him apart and crush him...

Tyrannus AND a robot. That means bad in so many ways.

"you're still talking.. Hulk will stop that!" Love it.

When will Marvel stop trying to push Tyrannus on us?

While it's probably not objectively good, I loved the end of this one too much not to give it 4 stars.

This title could have become the epic bromance and adventures of Hulk and his robot friend. Super bummed they went the other way. Why, Hulk?! Why must you smash?!

Damn, no wonder Hulk has no friends. I'm wondering if Stan will jump on the robot equal rights bandwagon.

This was just dark. First Cap and now Hulk, is Marvel actively trying to turn all their heroes into jerks?

  Anonymous Says:

@duncanm it feels like 99% of the people in the Marvel Universe are jerks in this time period.

I think this is the first issue that the Hulk actually felt like a monster, usually he just feels like a whiny child.

I really loved how this issue ended. I wasn't expecting it to get that dark at the end.

You would think Hulk wouldn't care so much.

3 stars for Hulk making a new friend...and then quickly destroying it!!!

Hammerhead - Cool image of Mogol ramming through the girders! (p11,p5)

Visit Lovely Subterranean - @MrRsBB: I agree about the backgrounds. Trimpe did a great job on the underground cities!

'Nuff Said - "...For Mogol, too, has known the sting of loneliness in this world of pygmies!"-Mogol

  Russ Says:

I came this close to recommending "You're My Best Friend" by Queen for listening for this story, but the ending sure scratched that idea unless you maybe want to transition it to "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath for the last three pages!

With the way the Hulk had been used and tricked lately, I kind of see why he went off on Mogul the way he did. He's shown various degrees of long-term memory on some things so it's not that far-fetched. But that doesn't make what he did to Mogul any less messed up. Crushing that voice box until it faded out was actually kind of chilling.

3 stars. Ended up not being bad at all. Did Mole Man gain about 18 inches in height and lose about 30 pounds? (pg 15 pn2 & pg 16 pn 2) The latter panel I pointed out has him striking an almost heroic pose!

Banner's pants turned from blue to purple between panels 1 and 3. Of course, they may be unstable molecules which more accurately reflect the wearer's feelings. Mood pants. I think the world is finally ready for them.

Best scene since paper-bag-head Parker. Marvel is slowly growing a sense of humour.

That was an emotional rollercoaster. I was laughing so hard at Mogul trying to befriend hulk, and at their buddy-builders montage. Then I got sad. It was ridiculous, but they played it so straight.

I'm not sure how to feel now. Just kinda...empty inside.

Wait a dang minute....what happened to the entire neighborhood of people that Tyrannus teleported away? Presumably, they were in the city....the city that Hulk trashed..

Noticed in letters page a frequent writer, Shirley Gorman, which got me to look up entries on her and other frequent writers. Seems there is a Wikipedia entry for frequently published letter writers - "letterhacks."

Also, cue "Sad Walking Away Music" from The Incredible Hulk TV series for this story.
