The front page is the first panel, how odd! I'm quite liking Iron Man now, seems to have really gotten into its stride.

Iron Man's butt on the front cover - rise them comic sales!

"There's a big drawback in depending on devices as you do", says the man who fights entirely with technological devices.

Also, Stark is perfectly capable of carrying around the whole Iron Man suit with one hand when it's in his briefcase, but when he's wearing it and it looses power, it's too heavy to move.

No, Xythe. He fights with his HEART. :)

I was thinking the same things about Iron Man's anti-gadget statement, and the effect of his armour's weight. Plus the Mercenary's suit, my god, that is a horrific costume.

Mercenary is a perfectly forgettable villain. Another 'take a breather' issue after a dramatic finale.

Girl believes Mercenary is Stark, because of mask.

Girl sees Mercenary shot by Sandhurst.

Girl doesn't react...

Okay so the Mercenary had a good plan to get himself into the impenetrable bunker, but how the heck did Sandhurst get in there?!

Why the crap didn't Cheryl Porter freak out when Stark was "killed"? Horrible...

A terrible issue with several plot holes, but I like the darker turn that actually has people dying. It's rare in this era that there is actual suspense that someone might actually die.

Interesting twist at the end. I was pretty sure that close range shot would have at least injured someone so badly that they couldn't sneak into a secret hiding place undetected that quickly.

How the hell did Sandhurst get into the 'impenetrable' secret bunker?

And does Cheryl not care at all that someone she thought was Tony Stark was just murdered?

3 stars for the rise and fall of the Mercenary! He had some cool gadgets, but like Canuck said that costume is fug ugly!! It sort of looks like DC's Airwave costume!!!

Booby Trap - That Cheryl Porter is as fine as cherry wine!!

Eveready - The last time we saw Vincent Sandhurst, he was still a living battery for his brother the Controller! (IM #13)

Credit Due - The way Tuska draws every villain with bug eyes and bucked teeth. Its no wonder that Iron Man calls him "rabbit ears"!!

Excuse - @Xythe: Maybe Stark has some kind of anti-grav unit in his briefcase....yeah, that's it, that's the ticket!!!

It's A Wrap - Okay, it went like this, Sandhurst followed the Mercenary into the cabin. Later when Iron Man was charging his armor; Sandhurst went into the bunker after the Mercenary and killed him!!

'Nuff Said - "My bird is my business, Cap'n...and she's no dame!"-Geoff, Champion of Women's Rights

I love it, crazy guy with a bullet wound succeeds where Iron Man with all his fancy gadgets couldn't. Too bad gravity beats the crazy guy.

I wasn't impressed with the so-called Mercenary. He seemed to be a walking deus-ex-machina who had an answer for everything, and had apparently been in the business a long time. So why hadn't we heard of him before? And how was a mortally wounded Sandhurst able to take him out so easily when Iron Man couldn't?

Following up on @Locust75's explanation, I believe Sandhurst was able to gain entry into the cabin through the door the Mercenary kicked down. That's your explanation for how Sandhurst was able to "defeat" Tony's security system.

Pg. 8 panel 2: That's one psychotic look on Cheryl's face there! Think she was unfazed by Tony's "murder" because she had plans to do him in herself? He employs Iron Man, the guy who put her fella in jail, remember?

2 stars. The plot holes hurt an otherwise good story. I still think Archie has the best feel for Iron Man at this stage and he has some good plot threads rolling. When the moratorium on multi-issue arcs lifts that should allow the subplots room to breathe as intended.

Honestly, you could do this story today with a less goofy looking villain, a hologram disguise, and change nothing else, and it wouldn't be half bad. Filler, sure, but readable. This story just hasn't aged well with the 4-color costume, and Mission Impossible mask.
