It might be because pollution and environmentalism are very important issues in my eyes... But this is a great story (and looks like not everyone agrees with me). Five stars, because this is the first time Stark sees the environmental consequences of his massive industrialist/capitalist empire.

I always tought Tony Stark looked like Al Gore....

The message to fight pollution is quite good. Unfortunately, a prevalent form of thinking today still coincides with one of the final statements; that there is enough time to figure it all out later.
Solar power as being a bad thing, and a catalyst for all the destruction, was amusing.

A bit preachy for my taste, but well done none-the-less.

Art is ok, but really nothing special anywhere. This book is all about the political commentary in the story.

iron man is pretty dark these last few issues. at least one person has died the last four!

A rich corporation skirting regulations to save money, only in the comics. That's not something that could possibly happen in real life.

Interesting message here: "Save the planet! Stop solar power!"

Cause this is exactly how solar power operates. Brilliant...

Bad science aside, this was a good issue with very good art.

To be fair to the bigwigs at the end, the story was completely about the mistakes of Ordway - it made it sound like if only he'd spent money on Stark's filtration system and taken all the other precautions like Stark told him to, everything would have been fine.

I don't mind the preachy-ness of this issue, I mind that it doesn't make any of this Stark's fault and never suggests that pollution is an inevitable consequence of this kind of industry.

3 stars for Iron Man and Namor being Captain Planet Planeteers!!!

Plain - Blane Ordway...what a terrible name!

Punching Bag - Great scenes of Namor beating up Iron Man!!

Rebound - You just know that Tony will comfort June later...

'Nuff Said - "Darling, what the dickens went wrong?!"-Boring Blane Ordway

Surprisingly good for a hero fight. At least they had a genuine reason. But in the end, the power of heart won.

Not the greatest issue, and the science was very Stan-like, but I do get what message this was trying to convey. Interesting that Stan is devoting some issues to a new pet cause, the environment. The ending was predictable, but rooted entirely in human behavior.

At the one point in the story, while the island was essentially melting down from the pollution, I half-expected Iron Man to forget himself and fire Ordway.

3 stars for the Crying Indian commercial one year before it first aired (anyone remember that old PSA from the early seventies? It's on YouTube if you're curious; it aired for years)

Interesting that solar power was the enemy. I'm glad that technology has improved substantially in the last 40 years that solar power no longer causes massive amounts of pollution.

The sad part is the fact that the issues this story tries to enlighten us about, pollution and the indifference of industry, are still with us today, almost half a century later.

  JonahBlack Says:

I'm torn. My instincts are to either give this five stars because it's depressingly relevant forty-seven years later, or give it one star, because it's still depressingly relevant forty-seven years later.

1 star. I refuse to be lectured to by Namor about anything.
