Issue Review

It actually started out okay. A bit cliche with the whole dark and stormy night thing - but a decent beginning. Then, quickly it fell apart into a total mess.
The Controller is a silly villain at the best - starting with the slave discs. Then show his underground lair within and rubber masked self. The cover is pretty cool - even if it breaks a few laws of physics. The comic, though, is terrible.
I hesitate to rate it one star - it has a few moments at the beginning that aren't a complete train wreck. But this comic as a reader is at its greatest zenith a dud. Pass and find something better to do in your life.

"Iron Man's greatest foe is back!"

I laughed a good five minutes before being able to actually start this issue.

"Fool! Slogans and bravado won't stop (insert villain name)" LOL! Poor Johnny Craig, Heck just doesn't give him anything to work with. Don heck must have been a heckuva a guy in person, cuz his art work is awful! The story is a million miles better than the art; actually, I loved the story here. The script was pretty good; there is still a huge word count!(3)

The Controller joins Mad Thinker, Puppet Master, & Egghead as villains who make any issue hard reading.

I hate the controller. Hate him.

Anyone else think this issue opened up similar to the Rocky Horror Show?

Anyone else notice that the cover makes the Controller's power look like a combo of the Unicorn and the Melter?

Because getting someone who hates you to do your work always brings great results, right Controller?

I almost docked this issue a star for Sitwell deciding not to request a transfer at the end. Seeing him get slapped around is always good for a few laughs though.

3 stars for the return of the Controller!!! I guess, I'm in the minority for liking the Controller, and Don Heck...

Cover Me - @duncanm: Agreed. Marie even draws a different helmet that resembles the Unicorns. Also, I'm not sure how mental force bolts can melt iron though...

Damsel - Nice images of Meredith in her little nightie!!

Big Poppa - 1st app by Howard Stark...and he's a jerk!!

Tales Of Suspense - I liked the big reveal at Pinewood Sanitarium!!

'Nuff Said - "Son, your school tests may prove you're a genius, but you act like an idiot!"-Father Stark

Another issue ruined by the one-issue policy.

If an issue has to spend half the book explaining who the villain is, they're probably not anyone's greatest foe. Hell, I saw the Controller and the only thing that came to mind was the Fat Controller from Thomas the Tank Engine. Neither make a good villain.

I didn't think this was a horrible issue. The concept of the Controller isn't a bad one, but I did prefer his previous arc in issues #12-13 to this one. Getting an enemy to modify and improve your stuff that makes you more powerful is an overused concept and it made the story suffer.

Nobody mentioning the first appearance of the legendary Tony's dad? Yeah, just one panel. And if I haad a dad that looked that mean, it would drive me to drink too!

Meredith married? You can tell this was written in the seventies. Since when does that stop most people, let alone a playboy like Tony?

3 stars. Is the situation between Tony and Jasper coming to a head? I'm interested to see how that plays out.

A woman that Tony doesn't get to seduce? I'm shocked! I respect Tony's respect for her husband. Also, I want this triangle with Jasper, Whitney, and Tony to be explored further.

My first comment on CMRO was "Don Heck is no Jack Kirby". I still stand by this a thousand issues later.
